Ahoi AshtamiAhoi Ashtami vrat is observed 8 days prior to Diwali festival on Karthik Krishna Paksha Ashtami. Ahoi Ashtami is also known by the names Ahoi Aathe or Karwathe. Like Karva chauth this vrat is also broken after sighting of the Moon; however, some opt for sighting of the stars too, if sighting the Moon becomes difficult.

Ahoi Ashtami Puja Ritual

  • Next, a red colored thread is wrapped around the bowl of water, whose edge is smeared with turmeric powder.

  • Essential Grains are kept on a plate and placed in front of the Picture.
  • The food or prasad prepared on this day are puris, halwa, jowar and boiled channa.
  • Money offering is also kept in front of Mata picture which is later distributed along with the prasad among the children and women.

  • Then set up the puja items and picture and offer prayers to Ahoi mata.
  • Food should not be consumed all day, some even go without consuming water.
  • In the evening Goddess ahoi is worshipped and Vrat katha is read.
  • Aarti is performed and the prasad and money is distributed among family members.
  • Mother’s fast is broken after the sighting of the stars or Moon.

Aarti of Goddess Ahoi

। जय।।

May the Mother Goddess bless one and all.
