Goddess Kushmanda is worshiped on the fourth day of Navratri.

Here comes the fourth day of Navratri, the day of “Goddess Kushmanda”. The name Ku-shm-anda means “the cosmic egg”; and for this reason, the goddess is also known as the creator of the universe. It is said that Lord Vishnu created the universe when Maa Kushmanda smiled and moved away. Darkness of every corner ended with her boundless smile. Her spark lightens all directions and lives of human beings. The incredible goddess resides on the core of the sun and governs the functioning of Saur Mandal. Devi Kushmanda has eight hands. She carries mace, bow, Kamandalu, lotus, discus, jar of nectar, arrow, and Japa Mala (rosary). With her Japamala, she offers Ashta Siddhis (wisdom of 8 types) and Navnidhis (wealth of nine types) to her devotees. The jar of nectar is to offer health and long life to the human beings. Vahana of the Goddess Kushmanda is a lion.

Rituals Of The Day

After taking bath and wearing clean clothes, Puja is done and Aarti is performed. Malpua is offered in the form of Bhog (sacred food), to please the goddess. On this day, women wear yellow colored clothes and dress beautifully like Suhagan (married women).

Offer Pumpkin & Please The Goddess

In Sanskrit language, Kushmand means ‘pumpkin’. For this reason, it is believed that offering pumpkin pleases the deity. Other things which are offered to the goddess are marigold flower, Rudraksha and Bhagva Vastra.
