Goddess Of 6th Day Of Navratri: Devi Katyayani

Goddess Katyayani is one among the nine forms of Maa Durga. She is worshiped on the sixth day of Navratri. This beautiful form of Goddess Durga rides on a lion. She has a radiant golden appearance, four arms, and three eyes. She is a warrior and is one of the most violent forms of Durga. She came on earth to kill the wicked demon, Mahishasura.


According to the ancient stories, she took birth on earth as the daughter of Rishi Katyayan, who did hard penance for getting the grace of Maa Durga. She was named after her father’s name Katyayan as Katyayini.

She is the one who removes arrogance, negative ego and rigidity. She removes all the sufferings and troubles of her devotees.

Rituals To Be Performed For Worshiping Devi Katyayini

For pleasing Devi Katyayini, devotees should worship her on the 6th day of Navratri. They should sit in meditation and enter in to Agya Chakra, which is the most important Chakra. Wearing red and white color cloths on this day is highly auspicious. To please the Devi, one should worship her with flowers and Mantras. Worship her with full faith and devotion to attain her blessings and Moksha.

Fasting On Sixth Day Of Navratri

Fasting for Devi Katyayini has a great significance for the unmarried ladies. It is believed that Gopis of Vrindavan worshiped Goddess Katyayani to get Lord Krishna as their husband. Unmarried girls worship Devi Katyayani for getting the groom of their choice. They observe fast and worship the goddess by chanting Mantras, before an image or idol of Devi Katyayani. They also offer her some Kumkum to get her blessings.
