Guru Purnima is celebrated as the birthday of Guru Vyasa. According to the Hindu calendar, every year, this glorious festival, which is also known as Vyasa Purnima, is celebrated on the Purnima (full Moon day) of the Hindu month, Ashadha. Additionally, Guru Purnima is also celebrated by Buddhists with equal enthusiasm. Followers of Buddhism believe that Lord Buddha gave his first sermon on the day of Guru Purnima. Hence, the Buddhism established from this holy day.

The period of Chaturmas meaning ‘four months’ starts from this particular day. During this time in the ancient era, the wandering spiritual Gurus with their followers used to settle at one place and study the Brahma Sutras written by Guru Vyasa.
