In astrology, most of the time we try to find out the time of happening of some event. When will I get married, when will I get job, when can I expect childbirth etc. are some of the most common questions in astrology. Today, I'll tell you how to get answer of such questions. To answer such questions, we need to learn Dasha or planetary cycle. There are various Dashas mentioned in Indian astrology and I'll talk about the most important Dasha among all, which is Vimshottari Dasha.

Vimshottari Dasha is based on Nakshatra. In a birth chart (Kundli), Dasha starts with Moon Nakshatra Lord planet. For example, if someone has Moon in Ashwini, his first Dasha will be of Ketu. Why? because Lord of Ashwini Nakshatra is Ketu. Similarly, if Moon is in Bharani, first Dasha will start with Venus. You can know about Nakshatra Lord from the last episode titled "Nakshatra". Dasha sequence is fixed and is same as the sequence of Nakshatra lord viz - Ketu, Venus, Sun, Moon, Mars, Rahu, Jupiter, Saturn, and Mercury. Total Dasa period is of 120 years. Duration of each Dasha is also fixed. Ketu Dasha is of 7 years, Venus is of 20 years, Sun is of 6 years etc. You can see Dasa duration of each planet on the black board.

This main period is referred as Mahadasha. Inside this Mahadasha we have Antardasha or sub-period of the all nine planets in the same ratio. Similarly, we have Pratyantar Dasha or sub-sub period of all nine planets inside Antardasha in the same ratio.

To know what results we will get in a Dasha, we need to remember these three points -
  • First: A planet gives results of the houses where it is situated and the houses it owns.
  • Second: A planet also gives results according to its own nature and significations. If a planet is weak as per our 15 rules, we can not expect the planet will be able to deliver its results.
  • Third: As I told you in Nakshatra episode, planet also borrows signification from its Nakshatra lord.
Suppose we want to know when will marriage happen. We know that 7th house is the house of marriage. So Dasa of planet in 7th house, or the planet owning 7th house, or the planet in the Nakshatra of 7th owner or occupant, can give marriage, provided the planet is strong as per 15 rules told by me earlier.

If you will keep these points in mind, you will be able to accurately predict timing of marriage, timing of job, timing of childbirth etc. Try to practice it on the charts of your friends and relatives.

This is all for today, Namaste.
