Why Is Yogini Ekadashi Observed?

Long back ago, there was a King whose name was Kuber. He was a devotee of Lord Shiva and used to worship him with the fresh flowers brought by his Mali (gardener). The name of the Mali was Hema and he had a very beautiful and charming wife. Once, Hema did not go to the King's court and started enjoying his wife's company. The king who was waiting for the flowers got annoyed and enraged. He ordered his servants to find Hema at that very moment.

On this, the servants started looking for him and informed the King that he was spending time with his wife. This raised King's anger even more and he ordered the servants to bring him in the court. When the servants came back with Hema, the King cursed him saying that not only will he suffer from leprosy in the Mrityu Loka, but will also face separation from his wife. These words of the King came true and Hema fell extremely ill and got separated from his wife. Distressed Hema went into the Himalayas, where met a Saint. He explained the story to the Saint, who then advised him to observe Yogini Ekadashi Vrat. Hema did exactly the same and got relief from his sufferings. His health got back to normal and he met his wife again.

Yogini Ekadashi Rituals & Vrat

Rituals of Yogini Ekadashi begin from the night of Dashmi i.e. one day before and are concluded in the morning of Dwadashi, next day of Ekadashi. Ekadashi rituals start with taking holy bath in the morning. The bath includes bathing with either Til (sesame) paste or mud paste. At the Pooja Sthan (place of worship), a Kalash (earthen pot) is established. As the day is devoted to Lord Vishnu, thus, idol of the deity is kept over it. The Lord is worshipped with fresh flowers, incense sticks, and Diyas (earthen lamps). As a part of Ekadashi custom, devotees stay awake during the whole night and indulge in performing Jagran. If you are observing Yogini Ekadashi Vrat, make sure you avoid consumption of rice, cereals, alcohol,and non-vegetarian food. Instead, you can take fruits, nuts, and milk.

The Significance

You have read all about Yogini Ekadashi, but what about its significance? You should know it as well. As per Hindu mythology, observing Yogini Ekadashi Vrat is equivalent to serving 88 Pandits or Brahmins. The divinity of this Ekadashi helps in getting relief from all the sins and evils. Making donations or performing charity on this day, increases the auspiciousness further.

How did you get interested in astrology initially? What made you come into the field of astrology, as a profession?

Basically I am from teaching background and have taught Science and Maths to a lot of students. I have also served as Principal for a couple of years. After marriage, while I was trying to balance my job and personal life, my husband noticed that a lot of kids that were my students, trusted me on giving them the best career advice. He suggested me to figure out a method that could give them a trusted answer, for helping this young generation.

I learnt astrology in order to help my students, so that they can make an appropriate career choice. I started helping them in choosing the correct career path, based on their astrological details. Good results were obtained by my students with the help of my research and logical astro methods, their parents thank me till date. For more confirmation of the choices made by me for my students and for obtaining best results for them, I took the initiative of completing deep and detailed study of various astrological methods and tools. I realised that there are many astrological tools, but those I referred to include are Vedic theory from Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan; Nadi Astrology; KP System Astrology; Lal Kitab theory and many more.

Even today I prefer and teach astrology; however, I rarely practice and provide consultancy. I suggest solutions when people are in real distressed situation and seek for help.

What astrological system do you use and why?

Each astrological tool has different speciality areas. I prefer to use all which I have mentioned above, to draw the best possible solution for the given condition. But, I also take into account the practical situation very strongly and consider day to day life scenarios to assure any individual.

There are a lot of people who get their horoscope match making (Kundali Milan) done through Pandits. The most common factor they consider is the Gunas and Ganas i.e. out of 36. However, still the marriages are not successful. On the other hand, those who don’t believe in astrology and get married, seem to have a successful life. Why? Because if you go to the doctor and he prescribes you medicine without concluding any diagnosis, its all done by hit and trial method. Whereas, I always ensure to provide logic and reason to the people, who approach me. I also tell them that why I am providing them the particular solution in the given situation.

Any incident related to astrology in your life or your prediction, which created impact that you want to share with our readers?

There are many, but at the moment I recall(without naming any), once a very learned and successful businessman's wife approached me. She approached me, as her husband was behind the bars and she was very disturbed because of that. I outlined a solution after analysing the complete scenario. I recommended a lot of things, like recitation of Mantras, Puja- Path related to their religion. The lady did that with pure heart and soul. On the 7th day, her husband got released and came back to home.

Another incident is of a cancer patient. He approached me when the doctors had given up the hope, as there was no improvement from two years. However, after a good logical outline of his illness, I suggested him the remedy by following which he improved and recovered. Today, he is living a healthy life without any use of medicine.

What are your suggestions for budding astrologers or for those who’re interested in this subject?

I would like to tell the new learners to remember the following points:

1. Astrology is nothing but a science with logical thinking behind it.
2. Remember to diagnose before you prescribe the medicine (i.e. answers and solutions) to individual’s problem.

We’ve talked about Dasha in the last episode. Today, we’ll explore how to analyze Dasha using an illustration. Suppose, we have to find out when this person is going to get married using this chart.

First, we need to find out if there are any chances of marriage at all. If you remember the episode about signification of houses, you may recall that 7th house is considered for marriage. Also, you know that Venus is significator of marriage, if you have watched the episode related to signification of planets. Therefore, we need to analyze 7th house, the lord of 7th house and Venus in birth-chart. If these planets are well placed in birth-chart, it indicates that the person is going to get married on the right time, and will enjoy a happy married life.

To pinpoint the time of marriage, we’ll have to find out those planets that may give marriage in their Maha Dasha, AntarDasha and Pratyantar Dasha. The planets associated with Venus will give marriage in their Dasha. Also, as we discussed in previous episode, those planets that are posited in stars of the planets associated with 7th house give results of 7th house.

Let’s have a look at illustration:

Sun is the lord of 7th house.
Saturn, Sun and Mercury are posited in 7th house.
Venus is conjoining with Rahu.

Sun, being the lord of 7th, is posited in 7th house. Therefore, it has the strength to give results of 7th house. Sun is also posited with Mercury. We know that Mercury, Rahu and Ketu give results of those planets that they conjoin. So, Mercury is also strong enough to give results of 7th house. Rahu is posited with Venus, significator of marriage, and therefore, can give the result of 7th. The planets that are posited in stars of Sun, Mercury and Rahu, may equally give the result of 7th. Therefore, whenever Dasha of Sun, Mercury and Rahu along with Dasha of those planets posited in their stars occur around the possible age of marriage, the person will get married in that Dasha.

During the week, Moon will be transiting in Capricorn, Aquarius & Pisces. Ketu & Venus in Aries. Mars in Virgo. Lord Saturn & Rahu in Libra. Sun, Jupiter & Mercury in Gemini, Pluto in Sagittarius. Neptune in Aquarius & Uranus in Pisces. Jupiter will shift to Cancer on 19th June 2014.

PLANET MERCURY, which controls our mind (Buddhi) is transiting in Gemini & is in retrograde position from 7th June 2014 to 1st July 2014. Be CAUTIOUS, as one is likely to take wrong decisions, resulting in financial losses, depending on its position in individual horoscope. Technical Analysts / researchers can be worst affected (since Planet Mercury is significator of this profession).
