Every year, Kajari Teej occurs on the third day of the dark fortnight of the Bhadrapada month. The festival is celebrated in many regions of India and has got different names region-wise; such as Badi Teej, Kajli Teej, Saturi Teej, Satva Teej, Budhi Teej, etc.
Kajari Teej Celebrations
- In most areas, women keep fast, worship the Goddess, have fun on swings, sing Kajari songs, cook various delicacies, and adorn themselves nicely.
- Some people make various delicacies mixing the Sattu of barley, wheat, grams, and rice in Ghee, fried fruits & nuts, etc. After moonrise, they have this in dinner. That’s why this festival is also known as Satudi Teej or Sattva Teej.
- At some places, Sinjara is also gifted on this day. Daughters-in-law gift sweet and money to their mother-in-law.
- Cows are specially worshipped on this day. Food is taken after feeding the cow with 7 wheat flour dough balls topped with Ghee and jaggery.
- In some regions of UP and Bihar, this festival is known as Kajari Teej. On this day, Kajari song competitions are also held. People board the boats and sing Kajari songs. These songs are considered as main monsoon songs in many different regions.
- Usually, on this day, various delicacies are cooked and swings are made to enjoy on them. In regional language, it is called Teeja. Women sing Kajari songs while swinging on carousels.
