Rishi Panchami is celebrated on the fifth day of Shukla Paksha in Bhadrapada month. Rishi Panchami is very auspicious for Hindus. Sages are honored and respected, on this day. Saptrishi did many efforts for the betterment of human life, due to which Rishi Panchami came into existence. Saptrishi was a group of seven sages who taught humanity the way of goodness and Dharm. Rishi Panchami 2014 - The Legend


There used to live a Brahmin named Uttank, with her wife. Their daughter who was a widow, used to live with them. One night, many ants attacked their daughter and covered her whole body. Her parents got shocked to see this. They became worried and immediately called a saint. That saint was a learned sage and told the reason behind the incident. He told them that, in the previous birth, their daughter had entered the kitchen during her menstruation days. He advised the girl to observe Rishi Panchami Vrat with full devotion, as doing so will help her in getting rid of her sins. He also told her that this Vrat will purify her body and soul. 

As said by the saint, the girl performed all the rituals of Rishi Panchami with pure heart and devotion. As a result, she got free from her negative Karmas (deeds) of previous birth. 

Rishi Panchami 2014 - Puja Rituals


All the rituals related to Rishi Panchami are performed with full devotion. Let’s take a look at them:

  • Take bath with herbs, as herbs cleanse and purifies the body 
  • Drink a mixture of curd (Dahi), Tulsi leaves, milk and purified butter (Ghee) for the inner purification of the body
