Indira Ekadashi Vrat 2014 - The Legend

According to Hindu mythology, there was a King named Indrasen, who ruled the city Mahishpati. He had everything that a person longs for. A happy family, a loving kingdom, he had it all. One day, Indrasen was sitting in his court with his people. Suddenly, Maharishi Narada arrived. Indrasen welcomed him and asked for the reason of his arrival.

Maharishi Narada told him that once he went to Yamlok and he was astonished to see Indrasen’s father there. Indrasen’s father was a generous person, but as he didn’t observe Indira Ekadashi Vrat, he was sent to hell. Maharishi Narada further told the King that Indrasen’s father had given a message for him to observe Indira Ekadashi Vrat. Maharishi Narada told him all the rituals of the Vrat and Indrasen observed the fast with full devotion. Also, he performed all the rituals of Shradha. As a result of which, the soul of Indrasen’s father got salvation and he was sent to heaven.

Vishwakarma Puja 2014: Rituals And Traditions Of The Day!

Traditions to be followed on Vishwakarma Puja in 2014 are:

1. Vishwakarma Puja is observed with sheer devotion and dedication in workshops, factories, shops, etc.
2. During Vishwakarma Puja, temporary structures or Pandals are created, where idols Lord Vishwakarma are installed.
3. ‘Kites Flying’ is a popular tradition on this day. In parts of Bengal, followers celebrate this day by flying kites.
4. Vehicles and other machineries are also worshiped on this day. Since, Vishwakarma Deva is considered to be associated with them.
5. In some factories, workers are gifted alluring bonus amounts on this day.
6. After the proceedings or rituals get over, Prasad is distributed among people.

In ancient texts, Lord Vishwakarma is believed to exist in five Avatars (forms). They are: Virat Vishwakarma, Dharmvanshi Vishwakarma, Angiravanshi Vishwakarma, Sudhanwa Vishwakarma and Bhriguvanshi Vishwakarma.

Following lines constitute the Aarti performed during Vishwakarma Puja:

एकानन चतुरानन, पंचानन राजे।
द्विभुज चतुर्भुज दशभुज सकल रूप साजे ॥

मन द्विविधा मं जावे, अटल शक्ति पावे॥
श्री विश्वकर्मा की आरती जो कोई गावे।
