Third day of Shrawan Shukla Paksha is popularly known as Hariyali Teej. While Hariyali Teej is celebrated in honor of Maa Parvati across the country, it is the day to pray Lord Krishna in Vrindavan. Right from this day upto Janmashtami, it’s a call for some real celebrations here. In the world famous Banke Bihari temple, beautiful swings adorned with flowers are laid down and the deities are made to swing on them. This ritual is known as ‘Jhullan Leela’.

The Mythological Legend


Goddess Parvati was in love with Lord Shiva and wanted him as her soulmate forever. For this, she performed hard penance (Tapasya) and took birth 108 times. Her devotion and selfless love for the Lord pleased Shiva and he accepted her as his consort. As on that very same day was Teej of Sawan month, Goddess Parvati promised womanhood that every woman who will observe fast on this day will attain marital bliss.
