Sankashti Chaturthi is a day dedicated to Lord Ganesha who is worshipped as the Lord of beginning, Lord of intellect and wisdom. He is the most loved and most popular among all the deities. Sankashti Chaturthi is celebrated on the Krishna Paksha in the Hindu calendar month. If Chaturthi falls on a Tuesday, then it is called as Angarika Chaturthi, which is considered to be the most auspicious among all the Sankashti Chaturthi days.

Sankashti Chaturthi also known as Sankatahara Chaturthi means "Relief from all troubles". This ritual is performed monthly . Depending on the day it occurs, it is either observed as Sankashti Chaturthi or Angarika Chaturthi.

Ganesha: The Lord of all Beginnings

This Elephant God is the most popular and prevalent God among the Hindu masses. There is not one work which will be started without offering prayers to this deity. Be it, buying property, vehicle, house warming ceremony, weddings, naming ceremony, the list just goes on. This god of the masses is widely popular in many other Asian countries as well, they being, Thailand, Burma and Cambodia to name a few.

Ganesha is the son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. He is considered one of the prime Hindu deities among Vishnu, Shiva, Brahma and Durga. Ganesha is the destroyer of evil thoughts, selfishness, ego and pride. He is the Lord of wisdom, intelligence and learning and hence the name Buddhipriya. Every year Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated with much zeal and fervor across the world, to get the blessings of this beloved god.

Sankashti Chaturthi

People observe fast on this day which lasts an entire day, and is broken only in the evening after watching (darshan) the Moon. The Moon plays a very important role during Chaturthi. Pujas and rituals are performed to the Moon and prasad is offered later. Ganapati Atharvasheersha is recited to obtain the blessings of Lord Ganesha. It is believed that observing fast during Sankashti and Angarika Chaturthi will help in solving all your problems, as Lord Ganesh is known for being the Lord of solving obstacles.

Every month on the Chaturthi day, "Vrata Katha" is told and "Sankashta Ganapati Puja" is performed. Following this ritual regularly will bring you all the good health and fortune and Lord Ganesha's blessings will always be showered on you.
