First day of the bright half of the Hindu month Kartik is indeed wonderful. People make Annakoot, welcome King Bali, cherish the victory of Krishna over Indra, and welcome the Gujarati New Year. Let’s know the right Muhurat for worshiping on this wonderful day.

Govardhan Puja Muhurat 2015


Morning Puja Muhurat: 06:41am to 08:51am
Evening Puja Muhurat: 03:20pm to 05:30pm

You may choose to perform the Puja among any of these two Muhurats.

Govardhan Puja Vidhi

  1. Make the Krishna’s image with cow dung or soil.
  2. Adorn this image of Krishna with crown, flute, etc.
  3. Offer 2 sticks of sugarcane, sweets, raw milk, curd, and Annakoot (mix vegetable curry).
  4. Light the Ghee (clarified butter) wick lamp along with rice and vermillion.
  5. Circumambulate around the image.
  6. Now, wrap the Puja with Aarti (holy song in the praise of the Lord).

Bali Pratipada


Many people celebrate Bali Pratipada as well on this day. It is celebrated majorly in Maharashtra. As per the legends, Vamana Avatar of Lord Vishnu sent the King Bali to Patal Lok on this day. He blessed the King with the boon that every year, he may visit his people on the day of Bali Pratipada. Hence, people of Maharashtra prepare for his welcome on this day. The above given Govardhan Puja Muhurat can be used for the Puja related to Bali Pratipada.

Gujarati New Year


In 2015, Gujarati Samvat 2072 is beginning from this day. It is the time to begin the new account books (known as ‘Chopda’ in Gujarat) and close the previous one. New Chopda is inaugurated followed by the worship of Goddess Lakshmi.
