Last time, I talked about ‘Principle Of Signification’. Today, I will talk about another important principle – The Principle Of Resemblance or Sadrish Siddhant. According to this principle, if signification of a planet and a house resembles for some aspect of life, that signification manifests itself more promisingly. This resemblance or similarity can be of two types – 1st, by being lord of the house and 2nd, by being posited in the house.

For example, Sun is significator of father. 9th house is also significator of father. If Sun becomes lord of 9th house in a birth-chart, it will represent ‘father’ in a stronger manner. If this Sun is weak, we can predict even in a quick glance that the person will not get father’s love. Suppose, if the Sun, being lord of 9th, gets posited in 6, 8 or 12 house, and is under malefic influence of Saturn, Mars or Rahu, or is debilitated; it will prove to be a double whammy for father’s significations. In such a case, we can say with full conviction that the person will not get father’s love.

We discussed the effect of principle of resemblance through house-lord. But, it will be equally applicable if Sun is posited in 9th house and is weak. Let’s assume that Sun is in 9th house and is weak, it will prove to be very negative for father. In such a scenario, you can predict without any confusion.

Therefore, make it a point to check the resemblance of signification of house and the signification of house-lord. Similarly, we should note down the common significations of a planet and the house a planet is posited in. If you keep principle of resemblance in your mind, you can never predict wrongly.

Principle of Signification - How To Predict Using Birth-chart

Principle of signification is an important aspect of astrology. Widen your astrological knowledge through this 2 minute video on ‘How to predict using birth-chart’ by expert astrologer Punit Pandey. ‘2 Minutes Astrology Tutorial’ will help you learn Astrology for FREE.

(If you missed the Part-20 of ‘2 Minutes Astrology Tutorial’, click here: Learn Astrology In 2 Minutes - Part-21)

We have already understood most of the important astrological principles. Now, let’s find out how to use these principles in making predictions. In this episode, we are going to discuss about principle of signification or Karaka Siddhant.

Planet & house Combined signification
Sun and 1st house heath, body
Sun / Moon and 2nd house eyes
Jupiter and 2nd house or 11th house wealth
Mercury and 2nd house speech
Mars and 3rd house siblings
Moon and 4th house mother
Mars and 4th house property
Venus and 4th house vehicle
Venus and 5th house movies / cinema / art etc
Jupiter and 5th house children
Mercury and 5th house intellect
Saturn and 6th house disease and enemy
Venus and 7th house spouse / marriage etc
Saturn and 8th house age
Sun and 9th house father
Jupiter and 9th house Guru and religion
Mercury and 10th house fame and profession
Jupiter and 11th house wealth and profit
Rahu and 12th house foreign travel

When you analyze a birth-chart for something specific, you need to focus on three important points – 1. House, 2. Lord of house, and 3. Fixed significator or Sthir Karaka. Different things can be predicted using combinations of these three. If you remember episode related to significations, you know that Sun signifies health, father and king etc. If Sun is weak in a birth-chart, it does not mean that all of Sun’s significations will be negatively affected. Affected significations will depend on house and the house lord. As we have discussed in one of the previous episodes that health is analyzed using first house, father using ninth etc. Therefore, if the ninth house and its lord are also weak along with Sun, then only there will be some negative effects on father. If ninth house and its lord are strong enough in the birth-chart, only a weak Sun may not cause problems to father. Did you get the point? That’s why I said in the beginning that three things are pivotal for art of predictions – house, house lord and fixed significator.

To give you a quick start, I am giving planet - house combination for some of the important aspects of life on the blackboard, please note it down.

Suppose that you want to make some predictions about the mother; analyze 4th house and Moon for it. If you want to predict about property, analyze 4th house and Mars in the birth-chart. This table gives planet-house combination for some of the important events in everyday life. If you have proper understanding of planets’ and houses’ significations, you can add things in this chart on your own.

I hope you enjoyed the video. Namaskar!

Shodashvarga Explained - Learn Divisional Charts

Increase your knowledge in Astrology with 20th part of 2 Minutes Astrology Tutorial. In our previous part, we discussed about ‘The 7 Secrets Of Transit Analysis’. Today we will understand ‘What Is Shodashvarga’. ‘2 Minutes Astrology Tutorial’ will help you learn Astrology for FREE.

We already know if we divide zodiac in 12 equal signs, every division is called a zodiac sign. For even finer predictions, even zodiac signs are further divided and are called “divisions”. A division is called a “Varga” in Sanskrit and a chart based on these divisions is called divisional chart or Varga Chakra. Divisions are named in astrology, e.g. if we divide a zodiac sign in two parts, it is called Hora. Similarly, if a sign is divided in 3 parts, it is called Drekkana; if in 9 parts, it is called Navamsa. So, every division has been given a name. These days, 16 divisions are quite popular and are called Shodashvarga.

Sixteen divisions of ShodashVarga and what they stand for can be seen on black-board.

Division Division Number Signification
Ascendant 1 Body
Hora 2 Wealth
Drekkana 3 Siblings
Chaturthamsa 4 Luck
Saptamsa 7 Progeny
Navamsa 9 Wife & Marriage
Dasamsa 10 Profession
Dwadasamsa 12 Parents
Shodasamsa 16 Happiness through vehicle & property
Vimsamsa 20 Spiritual life
Chatur Vimsamsa 24 Education
Bhamsa 27 Strength
Trimsamsa 30 Misfortune
Khavedamsa 40 Auspicious results
Akshavedamsa 45 General Wellbeing
Shastiamsa 60 General Wellbeing

I will not explore the mathematics behind these divisional charts in this video. You can calculate them using AstroSage or any other software. Divisions are used to calculate the strength of planets. Usually, if a planet gets more higher, friendly, and benefic divisions, the more positive results it gives. Initially, divisions might confuse you a lot. So, focus only on Navamsa. If a planet is weak in Navamsa, i.e. it is posited in debilitated or inimical sign, it cannot give benefic results. Even if a planet is exalted in a birth-chart, but debilitated in Navamsa, it cannot give much benefic results.

I hope you enjoyed the video. Namaskar!

Discover The 7 Secrets Of Transit Analysis

Other than Dasha, there is one more method to predict timing of any event, it is known as ‘Transit’. Transit is called Gochara in Sanskrit. Transit is used to analyze the effects of current position of planets on a birth-chart. Suppose that your ascendant is Leo and sign is Virgo. Saturn is in Libra these days. In astrological terminology, we may say that Saturn is transiting in third house from Leo ascendant and in second house from Virgo sign. It’s due to the fact that Libra is the third sign from Leo and second from Virgo.

There are several methods to analyze transits. Let us have a look at some important points about it:

  1. When we have to determine the effect of a house, we should always analyze transit from ascendant. For example, if your ascendant is Leo, sign is Virgo and if Saturn is in Libra, you will get the results of third house more prominently. It’s due to placement of Saturn in third house from ascendant.

  2. If you want to determine whether the effects will be benefic or malefic, analyze from Moon. Usually, malefic planets and Moon itself gives best results in Upachaya houses from placement of Moon in your birth-chart. You may like to note down malefic and benefic positions of planets transiting from Moon as given on black-board.

  3. Planet Auspicious Houses Inauspicious Houses
    Sun 3, 6, 10, 11 9, 12, 4, 5
    Moon 1, 3, 6, 7, 10, 11 5, 9, 12, 2, 4, 8
    Mars 3, 6, 11 12, 9, 5
    Mercury 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 11 5, 3, 9, 1, 8, 12
    Jupiter 2, 5, 7, 9, 11 12, 4, 3, 10, 8
    Venus 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, 9, 11, 12 8, 7, 1, 10, 9, 5, 11, 6, 3
    Saturn 3, 6, 11 12, 9, 5

  4. Transit of Sun, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn in 12th house, 8th house, and 1st house from Moon is especially malefic. Transit of Saturn in 12th, 1st , and 2nd houses from Moon is called Sade Sati.

  5. Planets not only give results of the houses where they are posited from ascendant, but also of the houses they aspect.

  6. If a planet is transiting in the same sign where it is posited in the birth-chart, it increases the effect of that planet.

  7. Dasha is more important than transit. If a Dasha does not confirm any result, only transit cannot give it on its own. Therefore, make it a point not to predict only on the basis of transit, ignoring Dasha.

  8. If transit is not good during the starting period of a Dasha, Dasha does not give benefic results.
Practice these important rules. I hope you liked this video. Namaskar!

Rajayoga Revealed

Astrologer Punit Pandey has come up with 14th part of ‘2 Minutes Astrology Tutorial’ series. In the previous part, we learned about ‘Yogas for success & prosperity’. Today, we will discuss ‘Rajayoga’. ‘Learn Astrology in 2 Minutes Tutorial’ is available FREE, read further to know more.

Rajayoga Explained

(If you missed the Part-13 of ‘2 Minutes Astrology Tutorial’, click here: Learn Astrology In 2 Minutes - Part-13)

Namaskar. Today, we are going to talk about Rajayoga. “Raja” means king in Sanskrit. Rajayoga in birth-chart does not mean that one is going to be a king. It means combinations for fame, success, and prosperity. Only any particular yoga cannot be termed as “Rajayoga”. There are several Yogas that come in this category. The more Rajayogas in your birth-chart, the more success and prosperity you will achieve.

A name is given to each Rajayoga so that we can memorize that combination easily. For example, if Moon and Jupiter are in Kendra to each other, it is called Gajakesari Rajayoga. If Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus or Saturn are in Kendra in their own sign or exalted sign, it is termed as Pancha Mahapurusha Yoga. 15 rules that I explained earlier are the basis of most of the Rajayogas and it is important you master those rules. Now, let me also talk about Parashariya Rajayoga. It is also called Kendra-Trikona Rajayoga.

If any Kendra-lord is related to any Trikona-lord, it is called Rajayoga. “Kendra” stands for 4, 7, 10 houses and Trikona means 5, 9 houses. First house is believed to be Kendra and Trikona both. As we discussed earlier, two planets can be related to each-other in three different ways:

1. Conjunction, i.e. to be posited in same house
2. Aspect, i.e. to influence each-other by aspecting
3. Exchange or Parivartan, i.e. to be posited in each-other’s signs

For Arians, Sun and Jupiter are owners of Trikona, i.e. fifth and ninth houses. If these planets are associated with the lord of 1st house i.e. Mars or lord of 4th house i.e. Moon or lord of 7th house i.e. Venus or lord of 10th house i.e. Saturn by the means of conjunction, aspect or exchange, it forms Parashari Rajayoga. The more such combinations in a chart, the more Rajayogas there will be.

Also, at times same planet rules Kendra and Trikona both. For Cancer ascendant, Mars forms Parashari Rajayoga because it is lord of Trikona i.e. 5th house and Kendra i.e. 10th house. Those planets that form Parashari Rajayoga are called Yogakaraka. Such planets give success, prosperity and fame during their periods.

AstroSage 2 Minute Astrology Tutorial: Part 9

Astrologer Punit Pandey has come up with 9th part of ‘2 Minutes Astrology Tutorial’ series. In the previous part, we learned about Exalted & Debilitated Planets. Today, we will discuss Friendship & Enmity Planets. ‘Learn Astrology in 2 Minutes Tutorial’ is available FREE, read further to know more.

Friendship & Enmity of Planets

(If you missed the Part-8 of ‘2 Minutes Astrology Tutorial’, click here: Learn Astrology In 2 Minutes - Part-8)

Hi, welcome to 2 min astrology course. In the last episode I talked about importance of exalted and debilitated planets in predictions. Other than that, friendship and enmity of planets is also very important in predictive astrology. Planets like Sun, Moon etc. are neutral, friendly or inimical to other planets. Check out the table to know friendship and enmity of each planet.

हिन्दी में पढ़ने के लिए यहाँ क्लिक करें…

Planet Friend Enemy Neutral
Sun Moon, Mars, Jupiter Saturn, Venus Mercury
Moon Sun, Mercury None Rest of the planets
Mars Sun, Moon, Jupiter Mercury Rest of the planets
Mercury Sun, venus Moon Venus, Saturn
Jupiter Sun, Moon, Mars Venus, Mercury Saturn
Venus Saturn, Mercury Rest of the planets Jupiter, Mercury
Saturn Mercury, Venus Rest of the planets Jupiter
Rahu, Ketu Venus, Saturn Sun, Moon, Mars Jupiter, Mercury

This table is very important and we should also try to memorize it. If this table seems too long, don’t worry. With the time, you will remember everything on your own. Grossly, we can divide planets in two categories that are friendly to each other:

Category 1: Sun, Moon, Mars, Jupiter

Category 2: Mercury, Venus, Saturn, Rahu, Ketu

It is an easy way to remember the table. However, it is not correct all the time. It would be better if you memorise the table.

What does being friend or enemy mean? If a planet is in its friend’s sign and with friendly planets, it will give positive results. Similarly, if a planet is in its enemy planet’s sign or posited with enemy planet, its positive effects will be reduced.

I hope you enjoyed watching this video. Hope to see you soon again.

AstroSage 2 Minute Astrology Tutorial: Part 8

Astrologer Punit Pandey has come up with 8th part of ‘2 Minutes Astrology Tutorial’ series. In the previous part, we learned about Signification of houses. Today, we will discuss Exalted & Debilitated Planets. ‘Learn Astrology in 2 Minutes Tutorial’ is available FREE, read further to know more.

Exalted & Debilitated Planets

(If you missed the Part-7 of ‘2 Minutes Astrology Tutorial’, click here: Learn Astrology In 2 Minutes - Part-7)

Hi, welcome to 2 min astrology course. As we have discussed earlier that good and bad results of a planet depend upon various factors. We have also discussed how significations of planet get negatively affected in 6th, 8th and 12th house. Similarly, position of a planet in a zodiac sign is also very important. Usually, any planet gives good results in its own sign, in exalted sign and in a friendly sign. On the other hand, it gives unfavourable results in debilitated sign and inimical sign.

हिन्दी में पढ़ने के लिए यहाँ क्लिक करें…

Check out exalted and debilitated signs for planets in the below mentioned table.

No Planet Exalted Sign Debilitated Sign
1 Sun Aries Libra
2 Moon Taurus Scorpio
3 Mars Capricorn Cancer
4 Mercury Virgo Pisces
5 Jupiter Cancer Capricorn
6 Venus Pisces Virgo
7 Saturn Libra Aries
8 Rahu Sagittarius Gemini
9 Ketu Gemini Sagittarius

There are some interesting points in this table. First, the exalted and the debilitated signs for a planet are seventh from each other, e.g. Sun is exalted in Aries, the first sign of zodiac, and is debilitated in Libra, seventh sign of zodiac. Second, Venus and Mercury have opposite exaltation and debilitation signs. Same is true for Saturn-Sun & Jupiter-Mars. Third, exaltation and debilitation sign for Rahu and Ketu are not that important.

A planet is most powerful in its exalted sign. In its own sign, it has power of second grade. In its friendly sign, it has power of third grade. In neutral sign, it has power of fourth grade. In enemy sign, it has power of fifth grade. In debilitated sign, a planet has the power of sixth grade; i.e. a planet is weakest in it.

While analyzing a birth-chart, you should note down those planets that are in exaltation and in debilitation. The planets posited in exalted signs are able to give their results. If a planet is in debilitated or enemy sign, it becomes weak and cannot give its results. When we say “results”, it means planets’ own significations and the significations of the houses it owns.

I hope you enjoyed this video.

AstroSage 2 Minute Astrology Tutorial: Part 7

Astrologer Punit Pandey has come up with 7th part of ‘2 Minutes Astrology Tutorial’ series. In the previous part, we learned about Birth-Chart. Today, we will discuss about Signification of houses. ‘Learn Astrology in 2 Minutes Tutorial’ is available FREE, read further to know more.

Signification Of Houses

Signification of houses is very important to analyze birth-charts. Every house tells about something concrete. Knowledge of all the things in this world is in these twelve houses. Everything cannot be covered during these two minutes, yet we can discuss about some important significations.

  1. First house tells about the entire chart, birth and nature of the native.
  2. Second house indicates finances, eyes, face, speech etc.
  3. Third house depicts courage, younger siblings, mental balance etc.
  4. Mother, happiness, property and house are signified by fourth house.
  5. Fifth house shows progeny and intellect.
  6. Sixth house tells about diseases, enemy and loan.
  7. Marriage, spouse and partner are depicted by seventh house.
  8. Age, danger and accident are shown by eighth house.
  9. Luck, father, Guru and religion are indicated by ninth house.
  10. Action, profession, position and fame are signified by tenth house.
  11. Eleventh house shows gains and fulfillment of desires.
  12. Expenditure, loss and Moksha are depicted by twelfth house.

Usually, it’s considered negative if any planet is posited in 6, 8, 12 houses. This is a general rule with several exceptions. We’ll look into it later. Generally, a planet posited in 6, 8, 12 houses not only adversely affect its significations, but also hampers the significations of the house it owns.

In this illustration, Mars is the lord of third and tenth, and it is posited in sixth house. Mars signifies siblings. Therefore, it is not good for siblings. Profession is considered with tenth house, so this position of Mars is also adversely affecting native’s profession.

I hope this information will be helpful for you.

AstroSage 2 Minute Astrology Tutorial: Part 3

Astrologer Punit Pandey has come up with his 3rd part of ‘2 Minutes Astrology Tutorial’ series. In the previous part, we learned about the benefic and malefic planets. Today, we will go further and discuss about the signification & nature of all planets. ‘Learn Astrology in 2 Minutes Tutorial’ is available for FREE, read further to know more...

(If you missed the Part-2 of ‘2 Minutes Astrology Tutorial’, click here: Learn Astrology In 2 Minutes - Part-2)

Hi, welcome to the 2 min astrology tutorial. Today, we’ll discuss about signification and nature of planets. Planets are considered as living beings in Vedic Astrology. That’s why planets have certain significations and nature. “Signification” depicts the things associated with a planet. All things of the world are associated with 9 planets. Let’s talk about some main significations.

Sun is significator of king, father, copper and heart etc.

Suppose, if a native has malefic Sun in his birth-chart, things related to signification of Sun i.e. his father and heart etc–would be affected adversely. In other words, the native may not get affection from his father or may suffer with heart-ailments.

Red color, masculine, warrior race, vice, Sattva Guna, fire element, and Pitta are the nature of Sun. Suppose someone has Sun in his ascendant. It will make him aggressive due to Sun’s belligerent or Kshatriya nature. Sun also has masculine nature. So, if a female native has Sun in her ascendant, she may be aggressive and free thinker.

I hope you’d have understood the difference between ‘signification’ and ‘nature’ of planets. We’ve talked about Sun so far, now let’s discuss about Moon.

Moon has nature of female, business-class, water element and Kapha etc. While things such as white color, mother, mind, silver and rice are signified by Moon.

If a native has Moon in his ascendant, he might have feminine attributes in his personality. If a native has malefic Moon in his birth-chart, he might not get the love and affection from his mother.

I hope this information will be helpful for you.

AstroSage 2 Minute Astrology Tutorial: Part 2

Astrologer Punit Pandey has come up with his 2nd part of ‘2 Minutes Astrology Tutorial’ series. In the previous part, we learned about the 9 planets. Today, we will go further and discuss about the benefic and malefic planets. ‘Learn Astrology in 2 Minutes Tutorial’ is available for FREE, read further to know more...

(If you missed the Part-I of ‘2 Minutes Astrology Tutorial’, click here: Learn Astrology In 2 Minutes - Part-I)

Welcome back to 2 min astrology tutorial. Today I'll talk about benefic and malefic planets. In Sanskrit, benefic is called shubha and malefic is called paap. Benefic is the planet that give good results and malefic is the one that gives bad results. Earlier I talked about nine planets, out of that few are classified as benefics and others are classified as malefic.

Moon and Mercury are not always benefic. Moon close to full moon day is considered benefic whereas moon close to no-moon day is considered malefic. Same way, Mercury is considered benefic when situated with benefic planets and malefic when situated with malefic planets. Rahu and Ketu are natural malefics but under the influence of benefics, they also behave as benefics.

If we have to learn predictions, knowledge of benefic and malefic planet is very important. Nature outlined earlier is the basic nature of planet but it doesn't mean that benefic will always give good results and malefic will always give bad results. Good or bad results also depend upon various other factors like ownership, placement in sign and house, aspects etc. We will talk about that in detail later.

This was all for part I. Stay tuned to AstroSage.com for the next part. Till then, have a great time.

AstroSage 2 Minute Astrology Tutorial: Part I

Astrologer Punit Pandey, the brain behind AstroSage.com, brings you his all new ‘2 Minutes Astrology Tutorial’ series. Learn Astrology with our Hi-Tech Astrologer and start predicting future! The best part is - ‘Learn Astrology in 2 Minutes’ series is all available for FREE! Let’s now see what he says in the first part…

Hello everyone, welcome to AstroSage 2 minutes astrology tutorial. In this course, we will focus on predictions and not calculations. For calculations and making free birth chart, you can go to AstroSage Cloud at www.AstroSage.com. AstroSage Cloud is a very comprehensive astrology software and you can get all kind of astrological calculations there.

Coming back to astrology, whole astrology is based on 9 planets, 12 signs, 27 Nakshatra or constellation, and 12 houses. The basis of all predictions is the relation of all these factors with each other. Let’s start with understanding planets.

There are 9 planets. Here, I am telling the names of planets in Sanskrit as well apart from English. Even if we are learning astrology in English, knowing Hindi and Sanskrit names will prove helpful going forward, so try to memorize the names in Sanskrit as well.

  1. First planet is Sun. Sun is known as Surya or Ravi in Sanskrit.
  2. Second is Moon, known as Chandra in Sanskrit.
  3. Third is Mars, known as Mangal or Bhaum in Sanskrit. In South India it is also known as Kuja.
  4. Fourth is Mercury, Budh in Sanskrit.
  5. Fifth one is Jupiter, Guru or Brihaspati in Sanskrit.
  6. Sixth is Venus i.e. Shukra in Sanskrit.
  7. Seventh being Saturn, Shani in Sanskrit.
  8. Eighth is North Node. Rahu in Sanskrit.
  9. And, last being South Node or Ketu in Sanskrit.

In Sanskrit, correct word is ‘Graha’, which is roughly translated to planet in English. Graha means ‘that influences’. You can see that this definition is not based on revolution around Sun which is taught in schools and hence should not be confused. Astrological meaning of ‘Planet’ is different from the Astronomical meaning. According to the modern Astronomy, Sun is considered as Star and not a planet. Moon is a satellite and Rahu and Ketu are mathematical nodes. As per Vedic Astrology, Sun, Moon, Rahu and Ketu are Grahas i.e. planet because they have influence on us.

This was all for part I. Stay tuned to AstroSage.com for the next part. Till then, have a great time.

Namaskar!

Participate in Astrology Quiz, Win Prize and Become Famous

Astrology never faced challenge of being labelled as superstition more than that in the last few decades. Astrology failed to modernize and also lagged behind in using technology and, in my opinion, it is the single most important reason of such situation of astrology. People get modern science perspective from schools and they feel dissatisfied with the old and traditional explanation offered by astrology and that drags people away from astrology. At AstroSage.com we understand it and we always try our best to bridge that gap between modern science and astrology by using advanced internet and mobile technologies.

AstroSage is probably the single most used website by the astrologers and astrology students. They use AstroSage Cloud to make birth charts and astrological analysis, AstroSage horoscope matching to match horoscopes, Astrologers Directory to find new clients, Affiliate to make money, astrology magazine to share their knowledge, AstroSage Atlas to find latitude, longitude and DST time correction and ‘Learn Astrology’ section to get text, audio tutorials and learning material etc. To help astrologers and astrology students to improve their knowledge, we have decided to come up with astrology quizzes.

In my opinion, quiz is one of the best methods for improving your astrological skills. In astrology, with some many rules and system available, post-mortem becomes very easy. We can justify any event in any chart but that doesn't help in learning. True test lies in foretelling events when you do not know them. Keeping this in mind, we have decided to organize one quiz / blind chart every fortnight. The winner will be given a prize and also get his name mentioned into “AstroSage Astrology Quiz Hall of Fame”. So do not wait, participate in quiz, win prize and become famous -
