Surya Grahan in Astrology

This Solar Eclipse is taking place in the zodiac sign Gemini and Ardra Nakshatra. In such a case, natives born under this sign and Nakshatra can face troubles and obstacles. Mercury planet rules the sign Gemini, whereas Rahu governs Ardra Nakshatra. Hence, in order to escape the malefic effects of Solar Eclipse, the ruling planets of this sign and Nakshatra must be pacified. Chanting the mantra "ॐ आदित्याय विदमहे दिवाकराय धीमहि तन्नो सूर्य: प्रचोदयात् / oṃ ādityāya vidamahe divākarāya dhīmahi tanno sūrya: pracodayāt” 108 or 1008 times during this time is considered auspicious.

Sutak Kaal During Solar Eclipse

As this solar eclipse isn’t visible in India, hence, its Sutak period won’t be considered. Sutak or Sutak Kaal is considered to be an inauspicious period during which carrying out some specific tasks, events or ceremonies are prohibited. Normally, the Sutak period begins a few hours before the eclipse occurs, and ends after the eclipse is over and a bath is taken. This period isn’t applicable for elders, kids and patients.

Don’ts During The Sutak Period

  • Do not begin any new task in this period.
  • It is prohibited to prepare or eat food.
  • Avoid urinating, defecating, brushing teeth or combing the hair.
  • Do not touch the idols of Gods and Goddesses as well as the Tulsi plant.
