Govardhan Puja Muhurat 2015

First day of the bright half of the Hindu month Kartik is indeed wonderful. People make Annakoot, welcome King Bali, cherish the victory of Krishna over Indra, and welcome the Gujarati New Year. Let’s know the right Muhurat for worshiping on this wonderful day.

Govardhan Puja Muhurat 2015

Morning Puja Muhurat: 06:41am to 08:51am
Evening Puja Muhurat: 03:20pm to 05:30pm

You may choose to perform the Puja among any of these two Muhurats.

Govardhan Puja Vidhi

Make the Krishna’s image with cow dung or soil.
Adorn this image of Krishna with crown, flute, etc.
Offer 2 sticks of sugarcane, sweets, raw milk, curd, and Annakoot (mix vegetable curry).
Light the Ghee (clarified butter) wick lamp along with rice and vermillion.
Circumambulate around the image.
Now, wrap the Puja with Aarti (holy song in the praise of the Lord).

Bali Pratipada

Many people celebrate Bali Pratipada as well on this day. It is celebrated majorly in Maharashtra. As per the legends, Vamana Avatar of Lord Vishnu sent the King Bali to Patal Lok on this day. He blessed the King with the boon that every year, he may visit his people on the day of Bali Pratipada. Hence, people of Maharashtra prepare for his welcome on this day. The above given Govardhan Puja Muhurat can be used for the Puja related to Bali Pratipada.

Gujarati New Year

In 2015, Gujarati Samvat 2072 is beginning from this day. It is the time to begin the new account books (known as ‘Chopda’ in Gujarat) and close the previous one. New Chopda is inaugurated followed by the worship of Goddess Lakshmi.

Narak Chaturdashi or Chhoti Diwali is celebrated a day after Dhanteras. As per Hindu mythology, one of the famous legends about Narak Chaturdashi is that on this day, Lord Krishna and Maa Kali killed the demon Narakusara to relieve humans from his oppression.

Abhyang Snan Muhurat for Narak Chaturthi for New Delhi is between 04:54am - 06:39am.

Abhyang Snan is considered quite auspicious on this day. People take bath early in the morning after applying Ubtan, which is made up of til oil, herbs, flowers and other natural ingredients as per the convenience. After sunset, people light Diyas, candles and decorate their houses. It is said that the auspicous bath is saves humans from going to hell. Abhyang Snan on Narak Chaturdashi sometimes might be celebrated one day before Lakshmi Puja as per Gregorian Calendar. This Abhyang Snan is performed between moonrise and but before sunrise in Chaturdashi Tithi itself. Abhyang Snan is suggested on Chaturdashi, Amavasya and Pratipada days during Diwali.

The word ‘Dhan’ means wealth and ‘Teras’ means thirteen. Dhanteras is celebrated two days before Diwali and people worship the lord of wealth Lord Kuber. In Hindu mythology, Lord Kuber is respected as a protector of world. He is said to be one of the richest demi-gods in the heavenly planets. Lord Kuber is also known as the god of Yakshas (savage beings).

It is said that Lord Kuber credited money to god Venkateshwara for his marriage with Padmavati. In memory of this, people visit Tirupati to donate money in Venkateshwara’s donation pot so that he can pay back his debt to Lord Kuber. The festival of Dhanteras is celebrated with great joy and excitement. The utensils/jewellery bought on this day is then used to worship Goddess Laxmi on the Diwali day.
