Ganesh Chaturthi: Birth Story of Lord Ganesha

Lord Ganesha is the son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. According to Hindu mythology, Lord Ganesha was crafted by Goddess Parvati from sandalwood (Chandan) paste, for her protection. Once Parvati had to go for bath and to make sure nobody enters inside, she instructed Lord Ganesha to stand at the door. While Ganesha was guarding the door, Lord Shiva arrived and tried to go inside. As Lord Ganesha wasn’t aware about the Lord, he stopped him from going inside. Ganesha’s this act frustrated Shiva and in extreme anger, he chopped off Ganesha’s head. However, after knowing the truth from Maa Parvati, Lord Shiva realized his mistake and replaced the head of Ganesha with an elephant’s head and Ganesha became alive. It is said that from that day, it was declared that Lord Ganesha would always be worshiped before worshiping other deities.

The grand celebration of Ganesh Chaturthi is also known as “Ganesh Utsav” which starts from the establishment of Lord Ganesha idol. Large stalls are imposed in which Ganesha’s idol is established. 2. Visit Lord Hanuman’s temple to appease Lord Mars.
3. Chant one rosary (Japa Mala) of Hanuman Chalisa or Maha Mrityunjay Mantra regularly.
4. Donate Deep (lamp) in Hanuman temple and chant Bajrang Baan on every Tuesday.
5. Take jaggery and Masoor Daal on tuesday.
