Jagannath Rath Yatra begins on the second day of Shukla Paksha of Ashadha Maas (Hindu lunar month between June to July), according to Hindu Calendar. During the festival, the divine deities of the temple, Lord Jagannath, Balaram, and Goddess Subhadra are brought out in a ceremonial religious procession. People from all over the world gather to witness this pious ceremony.

  1. Anantavarman Chodaganga Dev, the ruler of Kalinga, built the temple in 12th Century.
  2. Four major temples: Viman, Jagamohan, Nata Mandap, and Bhoga Mandap are situated inside the temple.
  3. The temple has the height of 214 feet and inner base of 181 feet.
  4. Neem wood is used to create idols of Gods.
  5. The temple has 4 gates: Lion gate (Simha Dwaram), Horse gate (Ashwa Dwaram), Elephant gate (Hasti Dwaram), and Tiger gate (Vyagra Dwaram).
  6. Idols of gods are replaced by new ones after every 12-19 years.
  7. Deities of gods have total of 36 costumes, which represents incarnations of Lord Krishna.
  8. Chariots of Gods are made every year.
