• Then, light a diya using Ghee or Oil.
• After this, sit with closed eyes and folded hands in front of the Lord and conclude for the fast.

Importance Of Guru Purnima 

A teacher of Guru is given the supreme importance in each and every religion. The same is also considered true for Hinduism, which is why the mentor or Guru is offered special prayers on this day and it has great eminence too. As per the religious traditions and legends, the creator of Mahabharata, the great sage Ved Vyas was born on this particular day. Thus, the festival is also known as Vyas Puja in many parts of the country. There exists a tradition of revering Sage Vyas on this day and acknowledging its significance, people worship their Guru, Ishta Devata and their respective adored Gods during this festival.

As per the Hindu Panchang, in order to worship one’s Guru or Ishta Deva and Shree Vyas ji, it is necessary for the Purnima Tithi to keep occurring until the three Muhurats after sunrise. Other than this, if the Purnima Tithi has less than three Muhurats, then Guru Poornima celebrations should be observed a day before. 

Rites and Rituals to Follow During Guru Poornima 

It is extremely important to conduct the Guru Poornima Puja according to an auspicious Muhurat. In the same vein, it is also mandatory to observe the pertinent rites and rituals so as to gain optimum blessings after its successful conduction. Let us move further to have a look at the liturgies which should be followed to appease the Lord or Guru. 

• On the day of Guru Purnima, one should wake up early and take a bath.
