This became popular as the gesture of love, respect and well-being. Yama wished for her brother’s well-being and long life. To show his love and affection for Yami, Yamraj gifted her presents. From that day onwards, tradition of celebrating Bhai Dooj came into existence.

Tale Of Lord Krishna & Subhadra

It is said that on the day of Bhai Dooj, Lord Krishna returned to Dwarka after killing Narakasura. To welcome the lord, his sister, Subhadra applied Tilak on his forehead. Since that day, sisters apply Tilak on their brother's forehead on this day and pray for their welfare and longevity.

  1. Puja Muhurat: From 09:18 a.m. to 10:40 a.m.
  2. Rahukaal is from 10:41 am to 12:05 pm.
  3. Abhijit Muhurat is from 11:42 am to 12:27 pm.
Lord Krishna is worshiped on the day of Govardhan Puja. But, what is the reason behind naming it as Govardhan Puja? Let’s find out the answer.

Govardhan Puja 2014: Why Is It Known As Govardhan Puja?

To find out the answer, one needs to go through Vishnu Purana. According to the evidences in it, Lord Krishna contributed largely to save the people from an impending danger at Braj. Let’s know how.

Govardhan is a hillock at Braj. Once, Krishna had suggested the people of Gokul to pay reverence to the nature in order to ask for rains. Actually, before Lord Krishna’s suggestion, the Gokul natives believed in worshiping Lord Indra (the lord of rain) to call down rain. They followed his advice, although this enraged Lord Indra, and he submerged the whole place of Braj with heavy downpours. Concluding this, Lord Krishna came to the rescue. He lifted the hill of Govardhan with his finger and sheltered the natives of Gokul under it. Following this incident, Krishna came to be known as Govardhan Dhari (the one who holds Govardhan Parvat). This came to be the reason for celebrating the day as Govardhan Puja.

Govardhan Puja 2014: Rituals & Procedures

Following are the rituals that are associated with the day of Govardhan Puja:
  1. On the occasion of Govardhan, a replica of Govardhan hill is made from cow dung and decorated with flowers.
  2. Then Govardhan hill is worshipped as the incarnation of Lord Krishna and devotees also worship cows, who are considered as dear to the Lord.
  3. The most important ritual of Govardhan Puja is Annakut. Annakoot means ‘a mountain of food’, which comprises of about 56 or 108 delicious dishes.
  4. Lord Krishna is given a bath with milk and adorned with new clothes and jewellery.
  5. Then, Annakut is offered to Lord Krishna in form of Prasad and distributed among other devotees.
  6. The proceedings are accompanied by Bhajan (devotional songs) sung by devotees to honor Lord Krishna.

Govardhan Puja 2014: Aarti Of The Day

Following are the lines of Aarti that is performed to honor Lord Govardhan:

This is the perfect day to honor Lord Krishna and to attain his blessings for a blissful life ahead. You need nothing, but a clean heart which is as precious as adornment of jewels. Happy Govardhan Puja in 2014!

Surya Grahan On Diwali 2014: Astronomical Facts

Under astronomical events, the last Surya Grahan of this year, i.e. Khagras Surya Grahan, will take place on October 24, 2014. If we talk with respect to Indian Panchang, this Surya Grahan will happen between the night of October 23 and October 24 at 01:07 am. The Khagras Grahan will come to an end at 05:22 am. As this solar eclipse is invisible in India; therefore, its pros & cons will not be experienced by the people of the country. With this eclipse taking place on the night of Diwali; hence, it is obvious for the masses for being curious about it. However, as Surya Grahan on Diwali 2014 is not visible in India, it will neither affect the country nor the grand festival of Diwali.

Surya Grahan On Diwali 2014: Astrological Analysis

Surya Grahan on Diwali 2014 will be seen in America, Canada, Mexico, Alaska, north-western parts of Pacific Ocean, Bering sea, and north-eastern Siberia. In the reference of Solar eclipse on Diwali 2014, our astrologer Pt. Hanumman Mishra says that ‘though this eclipse won’t affect the country, but if there happens to be a negligible impact, it would be favorable’. Reason behind this is the rise of Cancer ascendant in the country, during the eclipse. As this ascendant is posited in the third house of India; hence, country’s power will get more attention universally, as compared to before. Also, Sun is posited in the sixth house; therefore, countries which are our enemies, will either turn friendly or will face some sort of harm. These results will be witnessed within the upcoming six months. Once again I would like to say that Surya Grahan on Diwali 2014 will not affect our nation, but it will surely hit the countries where it will be seen.

Surya Grahan On Diwali 2014: What Astrology Says About Solar Eclipse?

In the words of astrology, ‘’Surya Grahan is that phase of time when nothing auspicious should be done’’. Not only this, but the duration prior to Surya Grahan is also not considered favorable, as per astrology. This time period before the solar eclipse is known as ‘Sutak’.

The 12 hours before any Surya Grahan comes under Sutak. In common language, these 12 hours are known as 4 Pahars. Beliefs say that in this particular time phase, the atmosphere gets filled with destructive and negative things. Therefore, if any work is performed under Sutak, it gets affected by the negative powers of these elements, which ultimately leads to troubles.

Dhan Teras 2014: Significance Of The Day

The name of Dhanteras comes from Dhanvantari, the lord of medicine. It is believed that during Samudra Manthan, a combat arose between the gods and demons. Then, Dhanvantari emerged from Kshira Sagar (ocean of milk) with a pot of Amrit (divine nectar). This came to be known as the advent of Ayurveda. Since then, this day is dedicated to Dhanvantri Dev.

The day is also popular as Yama Deep Daan, as the day also contain certain evidences that is associated with Lord Yama (lord of death). King Hima’s son was predicted to die because of snake’s bite on the fourth day of his marriage. When the prince’s wife came to know of this, she tried desperately to protect her husband’s life from his destined death. Even when, Lord Yama came in their house in the disguised form of a snake, the wife was finally able to put her devotion into practicality. Thus, she saved her husband from death. This represents the elimination of darkness, as death symbolizes darkness.
Hopefully, now you would be able to honor the day with high reverence. If you devote yourself at the lord of divinity with a true heart, you will definitely be blessed. Have a Happy Dhanteras in 2014!
