According to religious beliefs, Lord Shani is the son of Surya Dev and Chhaya. Sun God was married to Sangya, the daughter of Deva Vishwakarma. Later, they were blessed with two children; Yama and Yami. Due to excessive vibrance (Tej) of Sun God, Sangya was not able to bear it for a long time. She left her shadow, Devi Chhaya, for serving the God and herself left for tenacity (Tap). After some time, Chhaya gave birth to Shani Dev. Seeing the appearance of Lord Shani, Surya Deva refused to accept him as his son. Since then, Shani and Surya dislike each other, in spite of being father and son.

Shani rules the sign Capricorn and Aquarius. He stays in a zodiac for approx 2.5 years. Among all the planets in a person’s horoscope or Kundli, Lord Shani is the planet that stays the longest in a zodiac sign. That is why, he is also the slowest planet (Mandgami). During transit, Sade Sati or Mahadasha of Lord Shani (Saturn), a person has to face several kinds of problems.   1. Establishing Shani Yantra and worshipping it is highly fruitful on Shani Jayanti. Also, worshipping this Yantra on regular basis while following all the rituals pleases Lord Shani.

  2. Worshipping Lord Hanuman after sunset is also considered auspicious. Use Sindoor (vermilion), oil and blue flowers to worship the God. You can perform this remedy every Saturday.

  3. Donate five iron goods, food grains, and oil to any needy on this sacred day.

  4. Offer Til, Ladoo, Urad Dal and sweet Puris to Shani Dev. Offer the same to a cow, a dog, and a crow. Take this Prasad yourself as well.

  5. On Monday, pour Kheer (sweet rice porridge) in a silver bowl and then place it on the terrace. This remedy will free a person from all his/her problems.


In Vedic Astrology, Saturn or Lord Shani is a cruel and bad planet. But in real, he is an honorable planet and is also called as the God of Justice by nature.
