The Muhurat for Sharad Purnima is from 11:44 to 00:33 am.

About Sharad Purnima
Sharad Purnima is celebrated in the Shukla Paksha (bright half) of Ashvin month. Sharad Purnima is also known as ‘Kojagiri Purnima’, ‘Kumar Purnima’, or ‘Raas Purnima’. As the name suggests, this festival is celebrated on the Purnima (Full Moon Day) in the month of October. Sharad purnima marks the end of the monsoon season.
It is believed that the earth and the Moon are closest to each other on this auspicious day, and the rays of the Moon are considered to have healing properties or curative properties that are very beneficial for us.
Sharad Purnima 2014: Rituals To Be Followed
- Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Indra on Erawat Elephant (White Elephant) are worshipped on this occasion.
- The Shloka or Mantra to be chanted during the Lakshmi Puja is: “Om Lakshmaya Namah”
- For Indra Puja the Mantra to be chanted is: “Indraya Namah”
- Kheer (sweet rice porridge) should be specially made for this Puja and should be kept in a silver vessel.
- The Kheer should be kept under the direct moonlight, and should be consumed the next day.
- All the idols of Gods should be cleaned and dressed up in new clothes on this day.
- The Puja should be carried out with flowers and Diyas.
- A Purnima fast is also observed on this day and it shall be ended by reciting the story of Sharad Purnima.
- During the time of recitation, Kalash should be kept filled with water.
- Along with this, a glass filled with wheat and bowls containing Roli (vermilion) and rice should be kept.
- Those who perform this Pooja stay awake all night, as it is believed that Goddess Laxmi and Lord Indra bless those who stay awake all night.
Sharad Purnima: Importance Of The Day
- On this day, mothers observe fast for the well-being of their kids.
- In general, the fast observed on this day is to gain wealth, as it is believed that those who perform this Pooja get blessed by Goddess Lakshmi.
- This day is also considered very auspicious for buying any new vehicle.
