As per the Hindu calendar, Indira Ekadashi is celebrated on the eleventh day of the Hindu month, Ashwin. Like other Ekadashis, Indira Ekadashi is also dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Since, Indira Ekadashi comes in the period of Pitru Paksha therefore, it is also called Ekadashi Shradha. Indira Ekadashi provide salvation to the souls of our ancestors, also its observance relieve them from the fate of going hell. So, observe Indira Ekadashi Vrat, ward off all your sins and provide peace to the souls of your ancestors.

Indira Ekadashi Vrat 2014 - The Legend
According to Hindu mythology, there was a King named Indrasen, who ruled the city Mahishpati. He had everything that a person longs for. A happy family, a loving kingdom, he had it all. One day, Indrasen was sitting in his court with his people. Suddenly, Maharishi Narada arrived. Indrasen welcomed him and asked for the reason of his arrival.
Maharishi Narada told him that once he went to Yamlok and he was astonished to see Indrasen’s father there. Indrasen’s father was a generous person, but as he didn’t observe Indira Ekadashi Vrat, he was sent to hell. Maharishi Narada further told the King that Indrasen’s father had given a message for him to observe Indira Ekadashi Vrat. Maharishi Narada told him all the rituals of the Vrat and Indrasen observed the fast with full devotion. Also, he performed all the rituals of Shradha. As a result of which, the soul of Indrasen’s father got salvation and he was sent to heaven.

- Begin your fast one night before Indira Ekadashi
- Chant Mantras and Shlokas of Lord Vishnu throughout the night
- Feed a Brahmin on Dwadashi and then break your fast
