Navratri Day Five - Maa Skandamata Puja Vidhi
Goddess Skandamata blesses her worshippers on the 5th day of the Shardiya Navratri. The goddess is believed to govern the planet Mercury, who influences our communication skills, intellect, and logical reasoning.
On the 5th day of the Shardiya Navratri, Maa Skandamata is worshipped. The day commemorates the mother of ‘Skanda’ (Kartikeya) that’s why the name. Paying homage to the goddess balances your Vishuddh Chakra, and removes the blockage in your creative and intellectual wisdom.
She mounts a lion and sits in a lotus position, due to which she’s also known as Goddess Padmasana. The goddess has four arms. She carries her son, Skanda Kumar in her right arm, the upper two arms hold a lotus flower each, and her right lower arm is raised in the Abhay mudra. According to a legend, it’s believed that after completing her meditation Goddess Skandamata married Lord Shiva and gave birth to a boy, Skanda. Under the leadership of Lord Skanda, the deities triumphed over the demons. The 5th day of the Shardiya Navratri celebrates the mother of Skanda, Goddess Skandamata who imbues us with good values, health, wealth, and prosperity. Navratri Day Four - Maa Kushmanda Puja Vidhi

The 4th day of Shardiya Navratri commemorates Maa Kushmanda, avatar of Maa Bhagwati. As the popular belief states, with just a flash of her radiant smile the goddess created the whole universe (Brahmanda) and thus the name, Kushmanda came into being. It is also believed that when the universe had no form and darkness cocooned it, Maa Kushmanda with her laughter spawned the universe to the form that we know today. Due to this, she’s known as Aadishakti or Aadiswaroopa of the universe. Maa Kushmanda has 8 arms, which popularised her another name Ashtbhuja. Her seven hands carry Kamandal, Bow, Arrow, Lotus flower, Amrit Kalash, Chakra, and Gada, and the eighth hand carries a Jap mala which delivers Siddhis and Niddhis. The goddess likes ‘Malpua’ as her offering. Worshipping Maa Kushmanda activates the Anahat Chakra, which cures all health ailments, sadness, and ends your sorrows.

Navratri Day Three - Maa Chandraghanta Puja Vidhi

The third day of Shardiya Navratri commemorates Maa Chandraghanta, the goddess of peace and welfare. Maa Chandraghanta’s forehead is adorned by a half moon(chandra), which looks like a bell, and hence the name, ChandraGhanta. Her aura is sparkling gold and she’s pictured with ten hands. Goddess Chandraghanta mounts on a tiger and sits upright in a posture which depicts her ready to go to war with all her weapons that she is carrying, Trishul, Gada, sword, and bow and arrow. She has a Japa mala and a Kamandal as well, symbolising her solemn nature. It is believed that the goddess likes milk as her offering. By worshipping Maa Chandraghanta, we activate our Manipur Chakra. Maa Chandraghanta is believed to bless her devotees with bliss, tranquility, and splendour in life.

Maa Shailputri is believed to be the first avatar of Goddess Durga. The first day of navratri begins by commemorating Maa Shailputri. Blessed to Lord Himalaya, Maa Shailputri gets her name from the mighty lofts, Himalayas. The goddess mounts on a bull, and carries a Trishul in one hand, and a lotus flower in another. It’s believed that its auspicious to offer cow milk ghee to Maa Shailputri. Worshipping her is deemed to awake your Mooladhaar Chakra, which blesses you with good attitude, patience and spiritual enlightenment.

Puja Procedure (Poojan Vidhi): Ghat Sthapana and other Puja Rituals:
- On the first day of Navratri, take a bath in the morning and vow solemnly. After this, make an altar with fertile earth and sow barley in it. On this altar, place your kalash filled with sacred water. This is your 'ghatsthapana'. Place Maa Durga’s idol on the kalash. During all the rituals of puja, make sure that you maintain an Akhand Jyoti. (an oil/ghee lamp that alights for 24 hours constantly) While worshipping, keep all the ingredients required for worshipping, facing towards east direction. After this, perform the rituals according to the instructions given below:
- Chant the below mentioned mantra, and sprinkle water on yourself as well as the puja ingredients.
“Om Apavitrah Pavitro va Sarvastha Gatopi va
Ya Smarate Pundarikaksha Sa Bahantar Shuchi
ॐ अपवित्र: पवित्रो वा सर्वावस्थां गतोअपी वा |
य: स्मरेत पुण्डरीकाक्षं स बाहान्तर: शुचि:||
- Keep Akshat (sacred rice mixed with turmeric and red vermillion, used for blessing), flower, and water in your palms while praying to the divinity.
- Perform the rituals meticulously.
- Perform aarti, and after that distribute prasad amongst everyone.
- During Navratri, worship a little girl, and offer her food with some donation.
- If the above mentioned ritual cannot be done regularly, it’s advised that on the last navratra(Navmi), worship 9 girls and give them donations.
- In the Kanya Pujan( Worshipping of Girls) make sure that you only worship girls aged 2-10.
- In the 9 days of navratri, Durga Saptshati and aparajita lessons are believed to manifold the blessings of the divine on you.

8th Day Of Navratri: Dedicated To The White Goddess Mahagauri
Ashtami or the eighth day of Navratri is dedicated to the Goddess Mahagauri. The goddess is known for white appearance. Apart from worshipping Devi Maha Gauri on this day, Kanjak Puja, i.e. worshiping little girls, is also the main event of this day.
Goddess Maha Gauri is the eighth manifestation of Goddess Durga and she is worshipped on 8th day of Navratri. Maha Gauri is an incarnation of Maa Parvati. Being a temple of kindness, peace and morality, the goddess always listens to the prayers and needs of her devotees. She rides on a bull and has a pure white appearance. Dressed in white clothes and white ornaments, the goddess looks as white as a pearl.
Rituals Of Ashtami
Ashtami is celebrated in almost every Hindu house. With complete faith and devotion, Goddess Mahagauri is welcomed and worshipped. Chunari of red color is offered to her and Puja is conducted by the family members. As per the Puja Vidhi, idol of Mahagauri is bathed with milk, curd and water. After that, the idol is adorned with new clothes. Fresh garland, fruits, sweets, and betel leaves are also offered to honor the Devi. Also, Lord Ganesha is worshiped on this day.
Significance Of Worshiping Maha Gauri
It is believed that worshiping Maha Gauri and observing fast for her, yields fruitful results for the married women. Women follow the rituals of the day with full devotion for the peaceful and prosperous married life.
Tradition Of Kanjak Pujan
Ashtami is the day to conduct Kanjak Puja. In this Puja, 9 young girls are worshiped. Their feet are washed and red tilak is applied in their forehead. After that, Puri, Halwa and Kale Chane are served to them. These food items are considered as Prasad.
Eighth day of Navratri has its own significance and it is a very popular day for the people of North India.

Day 7 Of Navratri: Goddess Kalratri Arrives Today
Kalratri Devi is the goddess to be worshiped on the seventh day of Navratri. Kalratri Devi represents the goddess of the dark night. She arrived on earth as a demon slayer and freed all beings sorrows & troubles. Read below to know more about the seventh Navratri day.
Honor The Day With Kalratri Devi
Navratri has already commenced, and today is the seventh day. Goddess Kalratri will be worshiped today. Kalratri Devi is believed to be the most ferocious among all other Durga Avatars. Her appearance is dreadful, with four hands and three glowing eyes. Her long dishevelled hair and dark complexion add more to her valor appearance. Kalratri Devi symbolizes the death of ‘Kaal’. She arrives on earth on a ‘Gadarbha’ or donkey, as a slayer of the demons. She is also known as Kali Maa. She holds a curved sabre or Kripaan in her upper right hand and a thorn like weapon in her lower right hand. Her left arms signify peaceful gestures.If you are bounded with evil powers all around, then, today is the day to liberate yourselves. Goddess Durga has manifested herself as Kalratri to save the earth from evil forces.
Rituals To Please Kalratri Devi
Today is considered to be the ideal day for Tantriks. Tantra Puja is performed to please Goddess Kalratri and the rituals of the puja begin after midnight. The devotees should worship Kalratri Devi with no measures turned out. Tonight will be regarded as the Night Of The Siddhis.
