Chhath Puja is mainly celebrated by the people of Bihar, Jharkhand and Eastern UP. It is celebrated on the sixth day of the Hindu month ‘Kartik’ after the festival of Diwali. This Chhath Puja is also known as Kartiki Chhath, because of the month Kartik. This Chhath Puja is going to be celebrated from October 27, 2014 to October 30, 2014.

‘Nahaye Khaye’ is considered as the starting of Chhath Puja. On the first day, the devotees take a dip in the holy river and also they use the water of that river for preparing Prasad. This ritual signifies the name of the this day as Nahay Khaye.
Muhurat: From 06:32 am to 05:35 pm
The second day of Chhath Puja is known as ‘Kharna’. On this day, the devotees observe fast for a period of about 36 hours. Drinking of water is also restricted in this fast. They make a special Prasad of Kheer Puri, which is used for breaking the fast after worshiping Sun, before sunset.
Muhurta for observing fast: From 12:47 am at night (Oct 28, 2014)
The third day of Chhath Puja is the most important day of all. The main Chhath Puja is organised on this day. The Prasad prepared by the devotees is offered to the settling Sun by singing religious songs. The devotees gather on the bank of river with their families to worship Lord Sun. An event named Kosi is also celebrated by devotees in which the earthen lamp is lighted and placed under the canopy of sugarcane sticks.

Puja of the last day of Chhath is performed during the Sunrise, which means the rising Sun is worshipped on this day. The devotees gather at the river bank before Sunrise, offer prayers and break their 36 hours long fast. In this way, the people perform the Chhath Puja and receive the blessings of Lord Sun.
