It is filled with medicinal qualities. From the religious point of view, this very plant is considered an incarnation of Goddess Lakshmi, who happens to be the consort of Vishnu Ji.

This is the reason why Tulsi is very dear to Lord Vishnu and on the day of Tulsi Vivah only, the marriage of Lord Vishnu and Tulsi Mata is commenced by following all the necessary rites and rituals. On this occasion, Shri Hari Narayan is decorated as the groom and Tulsi like a bride and their marriage ceremony is performed. This day also marks the official arrival of the season of marriage.

  • Plant a sugarcane in the soil/pot in which the Tulsi is planted and place a red drape over it to create a Mandap.
  • Do not forget to keep a Shaligram stone in the same pot.
  • This stone will act as a symbol of Lord Vishnu.
  • Apply Haldi/turmeric over the Tulsi plant and the Shaligram stone.
  • Prepare a mixture of milk and turmeric and apply it over the Tulsi and Shaligram stone thoroughly.
  • Apply some of the mixture to the Mandap too.
  • Now, organize a Puja and make offerings of flowers and fruits.
  • As soon as the puja is commenced, place a subsequent amount of camphor on the Puja palate and then burn it.
  • Use the same to perform the Aarti of the Tulsi plant in the Shaligram stone.
  • At the end, circumambulate around the Tulsi plant for eleven times and then distribute the offerings among the members of the household.

Tulsi Vivah : Importance

From the religious, spiritual and medical point of view, the organization of Tulsi Vivah is very important. As we all know, the Tulsi plant is given a quite auspicious status. Its very presence fills the entire environment with positive energy. Therefore, it is effective and capable of eliminating many diseases. From a religious perspective, it can be stated that natives who take part in this marriage get an ample amount blessings from Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Vishnu.

Maa Lakshmi is the goddess of wealth. It is only because of her blessings that prosperity flows into one’s life. As a result, one doesn’t experience dearth of money and remains in an affluent state. At the same time, Lord Vishnu is the preserver of this Universe. His benediction helps one to attain great heights of success.

Mythological beliefs state that Tulsi Vivah should not be held in a house where there is no daughter. All the auspicious rituals that take place in Hindu religion are marked by the organization of Tulsi Vivah only.

Tulsi Vivah: Associates Mythological Legends

It is believed that Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati had a third son, who is said to be the beholder of demonic instincts. He believed that his position was over all the Gods and Goddesses. Named Jalandhar, he was married to a lady named Vrinda, who happened to be one of the most prominent devotees of Lord Vishnu. He would repeatedly torment the Gods with his supreme powers, but the deities failed to kill Jalandhar because of Vrinda’s devotion. At last, the Gods approached Lord Vishnu to put an end to Jalandhar and their plight.

While offering a solution, Vishnu gave the advice of robbing Vrinda’s chastity. To do so, he appeared infront of Vrinda as Jalandhar and disrobed her chastity. Only then, all the Gods were able to put an end to Jalandhar. When the innocent Vrinda got to know about this, she cursed Lord Vishnu. Immediately, all the Gods approached Vrinda and pleaded in front of her to withdraw the curse, to which Vrinda obligated immediately. But Lord Vishnu took the form of a stone to attain atonement. This stone is called Shaligram.

Afterwards, Vrinda committed Sati with her husband, Jalandhar and a Tusli plant emerged out of her ashes. Not only this, Lord Vishnu never gave up his redemption and gave the highest status to the Tulsi plant and declared that he won't consume any meal without Tulsi. Afterwards, the Gods revered Vrinda for committing Sati and commenced her marriage with Shaligram. The day on which Tulsi Vivah was commenced happened to be Dev Uthani Ekadashi, which is why Tulsi marriage ceremony is organized every year during Dev Uthani Ekadashi.

AstroSage offers the best wishes of Tulsi Vivah. We hope that you keep receiving the abundant blessings of Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi. Thankyou for staying connected with us!!

Retrograde Mercury Transit in Libra - 7 November 2019

Today’s Mercury Retrograde Transit in Libra Will Benefit These Zodiac Signs! Read On To Discover The Impact Of This Planetary Position As Per Astrology!

The planet Mercury is moving in retrograde motion and as a result of this transit, will enter the zodiac sign Libra today, on 7 November 2019. Some of you may be confused about what retrograde motion exactly entails. Often, even though a planet is moving in its standard orbit, however, as it moves slower than the Earth, it seems to be moving backwards, when viewed from our abode. This condition is not because the said planet is actually moving in the opposite direction suddenly. Instead, it is merely an illusion due to the slow speed of the planet. Astrologically, Mercury is a dualistic planet, meaning that it offers neither auspicious, nor inauspicious results on its own. Instead, the outcomes it causes depends on the other planets that it is in conjunction with.

Impact of The Position of Mercury in One’s Kundli

Mercury has a significant value in one’s kundali. The planet’s positive influence on a native due to its benefic placement can make the person intelligent, a skillful orator, mathematician, and rationalist. Astrologically, Budh is the significator of speech, communication, mathematics, logical abilities, intellect, cleverness, and more. It has lordship over the zodiac signs Gemini and Virgo, while the latter is also its exalted sign. On the other hand, Pisces is the sign where the planet remains debilitated.

If Mercury’s position in the kundli is weak or it is in conjunction with a malefic or cruel planet, then it can cause several problems for the natives. A weakened Mercury can stunt one’s communication abilities. There is a naivety in their behaviour, and they fall behind in subjects like mathematics and logical skills.

However, one can always strengthen the position of the planet in their kundali by performing remedies mentioned in our ancient scriptures.

Ways To Appease Mercury

  • Worship Lord Ganesha on Wednesday, to gain his blessings and escape the adverse effects of Mercury.
  • Wear green clothes on this day to attain the planet’s grace.
  • One should wear the Vidhara Mool (Root) to strengthen the position of Mercury in their kundali.
  • Wear Four-Faced or Char Mukhi Rudraksha to avoid the harmful effects of the planet, Mercury.
  • Establish the Budh Yantra with proper rituals and worship it regularly.
  • Chant the following Beej Mantra of the planet Mercury to gain its blessings:
ॐ ब्रां ब्रीं ब्रौं सः बुधाय नमः।/oṃ brāṃ brīṃ brauṃ saḥ budhāya namaḥ

Transit Period

Mercury, in its retrograde motion, will transit through the zodiac sign Libra on Thursday, 7 November 2019, at 4:04 pm. Jupiter Transit in Sagittarius Today, Know Its Effects

Jupiter Transit in Sagittarius will bring name, fame, and wealth for these zodiac signs! Read on to find out the astrological impact of this planetary movement!

Jupiter, the mentor of the Devas, will be making its transit to enter its own sign, Sagittarius. Whenever a planet enters its individual zodiac sign, during its transitory motion, it is strongly posited. However, a favourable position of the planet doesn’t necessarily equate to beneficial results. Therefore, Jupiter Transit in Sagittarius can offer positive or negative outcomes, depending on the zodiac sign. Before moving on to read about these results, let us first discuss the giant of the solar system, the planet Jupiter.

Impact of Jupiter’s Position in The Kundli

As per the astrological scriptures, Jupiter or Guru or Brihaspati is an auspicious planet. It is the significator of knowledge, religious activities, children, mentors, charity work, and progress. Religion states that Brihaspati is the mentor of the Lords; hence, its name ‘Deva Guru’. In the court of the Navagrahas, Jupiter holds the position of the minister.

The abolisher of ignorance and darkness, this planet is the lord of Sagittarius and Pisces. In the same vein, while it remains exalted while in the sign of Cancer, Capricorn is the sign where it remains debilitated. Just like its own sign, the exalted sign also indicates a strong presence for the planet. On the flip side, in its debilitated sign, a planet is weakly placed. Astrology says that the aspect of Jupiter in a native’s kundli from the Moon ascendant is equivalent to the Nectar of Immortality (Amrit).

If the placement of Jupiter is not favourable in a person’s birth chart, then the native can have to struggle with several problems as a result. Such a person has stilted progress, faces a degradation of their moralistic values, physical pain, as well as difficulties and obstacles in a marriage. To avoid all these, one must perform remedies to pacify Lord Jupiter and strengthen its placement in the natal chart.

Ways To Pacify Jupiter

  • Worship the banana tree on Thursday to appease Lord Brihaspati.
  • Wear yellow clothes on a Thursday to gain the blessings of Jupiter.
  • Wear a Five-Faced (Pancha-Mukhi) Rudraksha to evade the malefic effects of the planet Jupiter.
  • Establish the Guru Yantra with complete rituals and venerate it to obtain the grace of Deva Guru Brihaspati.
  • Chant the given Guru mantra: “ॐ ग्रां ग्रीं ग्रौं सः गुरुवे नमः”/“oṃ grāṃ grīṃ grauṃ saḥ guruve namaḥ”.

Chhath Puja Today: Know its Muhurat and Puja Rituals

Chhath Puja today fulfills all your wishes and desires! Know Chhath Puja rituals and significance of the four days.

Chatth Puja, dedicated to the Lord of light, Surya Dev is one of the most prominent festivals of eastern India. Grand Chhath celebrations primarily take place in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and Chattisgarh. However, its popularity has increased over the years, which explains the commemoration of Chhath in various parts of India. Chhath Puja is also known as Surya Sashti in many places.

From the religious point of view, this festival has a great amount of significance. On this day, Chatthi Maiya is also worshipped along with the Sun. At the same time, the tradition of offering Arghya to the Sun is also followed during Chhath Puja. As per the scriptures, Lord Sun has been described as the essence of all creations existing in this Universe. It is impossible for any living being or organism to thrive on our planet without the sun. Therefore, Sun God or Surya Dev is worshiped devotedly in this festival.

Who is Chhati Maiya?

As per the colloquial language, Shashthi Mata is known as Chhathi Maiya. According to Vedic scriptures, Shashthi Mata has been described as the Manas Putri (spiritual daughter) of Lord Brahma. The name Katyayani has also been attributed to her and Goddess Katyayani is worshiped on Shashti Tithi during Sharad and Chaitra Navratri. Beliefs state that Goddess Chhathi protects one’s offspring and also grants them longevity, which is why female natives wish for the long lives of their sons and offer their reverence to Goddess Sashti.

When is Chhath Puja Celebrated?

The Hindu festival Chhath is celebrated six days after the Diwali celebrations. As per the Vedic Panchang, this festival is observed during Kartik month’s Shukla Paksha’s Sashti Tithi. However, the festivities go on for a period of four days. The occasion begins with Kartik Shukla Paksha’s Chaturthi Tithi which ends with the same month and Paksha’s Ashtami Tithi.

Chhath Puja: Rituals and Traditions

The festivals which find a place in the Hindu Sanatan Dharma are significant in their own ways. The various customs and traditions associated with them give birth to their relevance. In the same vein, there are also some rites and rituals performed on the day of Chhath Puja, which adds to its grandeur and makes it different from the rest. There are four main highlights of this festival which are - Nahay Khay, Kharna, Sandhya Arghya and Usha Arghya.

  • Nahay Khay is the first day of this festival. The word Nahai Khay stands for the practice of keeping your mind and body pious during this Puja. On this day, the practice of cleaning one’s household and courtyard is also observed. One should also keep in mind to take an early bath and consume Sattvik food thereby housing positive thoughts in mind.
  • The second highlight of this festival is Kharna. It takes place during the second day of Chhath. Natives observe fasts on this day. The nature of this fast is quite strict as natives do not even consume a single drop while undergoing this Vrat. however, when the fast is broken, the ritual of ingesting jaggery pudding, bread(roti) mixed with clarified butter (ghee) and fruits is followed.
  • On the third day of Chhath Puja (Kartik Shukla Shashthi), Arghya in the form of water is offered to Surya Dev during sunset. This ritual is called Sandhya Arghya. Earlier in the evening before the Arghya is offered, the vessel is decorated with fruits, sweets(ladoos) made of rice and other things in a bamboo basket. After its successful commemoration, natives who have observed the fast and all of their family members make the offering. Meanwhile, the same water is used to worship Chhathi Maiya later.
  • On the last day of Chhath festival, the tradition of offering Usha (morning) Arghya is followed by natives. On this day, Arghya is offered to the Sun God during the early morning hours. Natives reach the banks of rivers and then offer Arghya to the rising Sun. After this, Chhath Mata is venerated and the longevity of progeny along with the prosperity of the household is sought from the Goddess.
