Following the Hindu chronological order, the festival of Hartalika Teej will be celebrated on 1 September, 2019. The celebrations of teej are specially observed by married female natives. Hartalika Teej Rituals 

• On the day of Hartalika Teej, sand idols are made of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati and worshipped. 
• The Hartalika Teej fast is should be kept without consuming water and food. 
• The observation of this fast should be completed successfully. One should not give up in between. 
• Offerings of fruits are made to Mahadev and Maa Parvati. 
• Goddess Shiva and Mother Parvati are worshiped while conducting a Jagran during hartalika Teej fast.
• The fast ends after immersion(Visarjan) of the poojan material in the morning of the next day.
• Only Satvik food and water should be consumed on the very next day after Hartalika Teej fast is observed.

Hartalika Teej Vrat Katha and its Importance 

According to the mythological beliefs,Goddess Parvati performed deep and difficult austerity to get married to Lord Shiva. Witnessing this state of his daughter, Maa Parvati’s father, Mountain Lord Himalaya’s heart went down. During this while, the sage Narada, presented a proposal, asking Goddess Parvati’s hand in marriage for Lord Vishnu. When she got to know about this, Adi Mata’s heart sank. On being asked about her dejection, Goddess Parvati told that she is performing hard penance to get Lord Shiva as her husband. After this Parvati ji's friends took her to the forest. This episode is regarded as Goddess Parvati’s kidnapping(Haran in hindi), after which this festival is named Hartalika Teej. As mentioned above, the word Harat can be deciphered as kidnapping and Alika stands for friends. This is how this festival came to be known as Hartalika Teej. Afterwards, Goddess Parvati went through the deep austeration. In the Bhadrapad month, on the day of Shukla Paksha Tritiya and Hast Nakshatra, Mata Parvati constructed a Shivalinga with sand and immersed herself in the veneration of Bholenath by staying awake in the night. Witnessing the difficult tenacity of Goddess Parvati, Lord Shiva appeared in front of her and accepted her as his wife as per her wish.

It is believed that Mata Parvati and Lord Shiva bless all those women who observe this fast while adhering to the proper rituals. They are provided with the boon to attain marital bliss and earn some good fortune. Due to this, Hartalika Teej Vrat has special significance for married women as well as spinsters .

Things To Keep In Mind On Aja Ekadashi

If you’re fasting on the day of Aja Ekadashi, you need to keep some things in mind, which are mentioned below:

• You must avoid consuming Masoor pulse on the tenth day or Dashmi, as eating the Masoor daal before the fast is considered inauspicious. 
• Along with that, avoid eating Black Gram or Chana and Karonde or Bengal Currant before the fast. 
• Using Honey on the day of fast is considered inauspicious. 
• Also, follow the ritual of Brahmacharya on the Dashmi and Ekadashi as well. Keeping these things in mind helps you gain desirable results.

Lord Shri Krishna’s History 

Lord Vishnu reincarnated as the son of Devaki and Vasudev during the Dwapar Yuga. It was during the conclusive era of Dwapar Yuga and the cruel King Kans ruled over Mathura at this point of time. He wreaked havoc in the lives of all the citizens of Mathura. One day Kamsa was on his way to drop his sister Devaki at her in law’s house after she got married Vasudev, when an oracle narrated a premonition that the eighth child of Devaki and Vasudev will be the reason for his death and downfall. After hearing this, Kansa raised the sword to kill his sister, but Vasudev, who was truthful, promised that he would give away his children to Kansa, but Kansa did not accept any of his pleas and eventually he dragged both of them to the jail.

When did Shri Krishna take Birth? 

Time passed by and Kans’ atrocities towards Devaki and Vasudev kept increasing. He killed all the seven children of theirs. It has been said that time belongs to no one and it never remains the same. It was during the Rohini Nakshatra on Ashtami Tithi in the month of Bhadrapada, that it started raining heavily and darkness prevailed all over. During midnight Lord Krishna took birth from Devaki's womb. It is believed that God himself appeared in front Devaki and Vasudev and said that a girl was born in the house of Nand Baba. He said that the girl child is one of creations, so Vasudev can bring her to the prison and take krishna Ji to Nanda’s house. He also assured Vasudev that no obstacle will stop him on the way. After saying so, the Lord disappeared and all the guards of Kamsa went into sleep and the handcuffs tied around the hands of Vasudeva and the shackles of his feet cracked opened automatically and he embarked upon the journey towards Nand Baba's house with the newborn child. 

Lord Krishna’s Miracle 

On the way, the river Yamuna was flowing at a rapid speed and the great serpent Sheshnaag was covering Lord Krishna from getting drenched in rain. When the Lord's feet touched the river, then the water level of the Yamuna decreased at once and Vasudev swiftly went to Nand Baba's house and brought Yoga Maya from there. When he returned, the handcuffs and leg shackles automatically covered his hands and feet and the guards woke up from utter sleep. They informed Kans that Devaki gave birth to the eighth child. As soon as Kans arrived to kill the child, she disappeared into thin air and then another oracle was heard by everyone. It was stated that your reason for your destruction has taken birth elsewhere and your death in his hands will surely take place. This infuriated Kans further and he ordered the slaughter of all the newborns around.

Lord Krishna’s Peculiar Appearance

Kamsa repeatedly sent various kinds of demons to kill Krishna but all of them had to face defeat in the hands of the Lord. He killed all of them and also a demoness named Pootana. Everyone was surprised after witnessing the fate of the demons and how Krishna Ji managed to put an end to them. Krishna also rescued Kalia Nag and then went on to play flute and graze cows with his friends.

Little Krishna’s Playful Mischiefs

Ever since childhood, Lord Krishna used to fascinate everyone with his adventures and naughtiness. Sometimes, he used to break the matkas(earthen pot)of a Gopi, and the other time he had the habit of stealing Makhan(butter). Once Kanha ate soil in his childhood, and then his friends complained to his mother Yashoda. When Yashoda Maiya opened his mouth, she was astonished to see the entire universe in his mouth. 

Krishna’s Playful banter with the Gopis

Krishna playfully danced with the gopis and taught the essence of love to the whole world. This is the reason why the whole world believes in Lord Krishna and the festival of Janmashtami is celebrated with full fervor. He never discriminated against anyone and gave love to everyone while treating each and every person equally. Thus, he occupies a special place in everyone's heart.

The Death of Kans in the hands of Krishna

When Krishna and his brother Balarama grew up to become adults, Kansa sent his treasurer Akruor to Nanda Baba and fraudulently summoned the duo to Mathura so that he could kill him but Lord Krishna killed him while fighting a duel with him there. Ultimately, he liberated the people from Kans’ atrocities and after that, he went on to free his parents Devaki and Vasudev from Kans’ prison.

Lord Krishna: The Yogiraj

Lord Krishna is also known as Yogiraj. During the Mahabharata war which was taking place between the Kauravas and the Pandavas, Lord Shri Krishna preached the Gita to Arjuna in the field of Kurukshetra and that is why the Gita is most recognized holy text in the world as it is the only scripture which comes straight from the Lord's mouth. The Gita inspires everyone to do his/her Karma and teaches a person to stay on the right path.

Rites and Traditions to Follow During Janmashtami 

• The most convenient way to celebrate Janmashtami is to wake up early in the morning and take a clean bath. Afterwards, cleanse the child idol of Lord Krishna with Panchamrit and make it wear new clothes.
• After this, observe the fast, consume fruits and only after the birth of Lord Krishna at midnight, perform the Aarti, offer Arghya to the Moon and then break the fast.
• Kuttu flour or water chestnut flour can also be used during this fast. 
• Along with this, help the poor and the needy.
• Some small kids are also be dressed as Radha and Krishna and then they take part in processions.

Dahi Handi Festival 

On the very next day of Jnmashtami, Dahi Handi festival is celebrated in the states of Maharashtra and Gujarat. The youth taking part in this festival are known as Govinda, who break the matkis (earthen pots) kept at a very high pedestal and celebrate this festival with great enthusiasm. Krishna Janmashtami is celebrated in the most grand manner in Mathura, Vrindavan and Barsana. dehi me tanayaṃ kṛṣṇa tvāmahaṃ śaraṇaṃ gataḥ ।

ॐ श्रीं ह्रीं क्लीं ग्लौं देवकीसुत गोविन्द वासुदेव जगत्पते

देहि मे तनयं कृष्ण त्वामहं शरणं गतः ।

Chant this mantra with all your heart and after the recitation is done, perform an oblation with the same Mantra. Afterwards, offer Makhan Mishri to the Lord and distribute it amongst everyone as Prasad. Eventually, you will get the blessings of Lord Shri Krishna.

Janmashtami, also known as Gokulashtami or Krishna Janmashtami, holds high significance in Hinduism. On this day, the birth of the eighth avatar of Lord Vishnu, Lord Krishna is celebrated. As per the Hindu Panchang, this festival is observed on the eighth day or Ashtami during Krishna Paksha in the month of Bhadrapada during Rohini Nakshatra, which falls on 24 August 2019 for both the sects. As per the Gregorian Calendar, this time duration normally falls in the month of August-September. Krishna Jayanti is celebrated all over the nation with zeal and enthusiasm, and people place the idols of Lord Krishna in his innocent, child-like form and worship him wholeheartedly.

Smartha & Vaishnava Sect: Who Are They?

In Hinduism, Vaishnavas are those who undertake the preachings from a Guru and adorn a mala, tilak, necklace and install the Conch and Chakra to worship. They consider Lord Vishnu to be Supreme One. On the other hand, Smarthas are known to be the worshippers of the Five Gods, i.e. Shiva, Vishnu, Ganesha, Surya and Shakti. in Hinduism, the ones who follow a domestic life are known as Smarthas.

Janmashtami To Be Celebrated On 24 August By Both Sects

This year, the festival of Janmashtami will be celebrated by both the sects on 24 August itself. The followers of Smarta sect will fast on 23 August, as the Ashtami tithi will fall at midnight, whereas followers of Vaishnava sect will observe the fast on 24 August itself. 

Fasting Date For Janmashtami 

According to the information, the people of the Smarta community will observe the Shri Krishna Janmashtami fast on August 23, Friday, and perform the Parana on August 24, Saturday. On the other hand, the followers of Vaishnavism will fast on August 24, Saturday and perform the Parana on the same day itself. Smarta sect celebrate this festival as Krishnashtami, and Vaishnava sect celebrate this day as Gokulashtami on the second day. Followers of Vaishnav and Smarta sects follow different rituals to celebrate this festival. Below are the date of the fast:

Importance of Janmashtami in Hinduism

Hindu Calendar encourages the celebration of this festival on the Ashtami during the month of Bhadrapada. As per the beliefs, that Lord Krishna was born at midnight on the Ashtami to Devaki and Vasudeva as their eighth child in the prison of Demon King Kansa. His birth took place when the planet Moon was rising with Rohini Nakshatra during the dark fortnight. On this day, the devotees visit the birthplace of Lord Shri Krishna, i.e. Mathura, as well as Vrindavan to seek his blessings, fast the whole day, sing devotional songs, and enact the Ras Lila, also known as Krishna Lila.

Janmashtami For Childless Couples

In the year 2019, Sarvartha Siddhi Yoga and Amrit Siddhi Yoga forming during Rohini Nakshatra on the Ashtami tithi is creating an auspicious muhurat for couples who wish to have a child. On this propitious occasion of Janmashtami, childless couples must fast while following the puja rituals and install Santan Gopal Yantra at their altars or homes facing North or East. Also, following mantra must be chanted when worshipping the Lord:

ऊं श्रीं ह्रीं क्लीं ग्लौं देवकीसुत गोविंद वासुदेव जगत्पते। देहि मे तनयं कृष्णं त्वामहं शरणं गत: क्लीं ऊं।।

ūṃ śrīṃ hrīṃ klīṃ glauṃ devakīsuta goviṃda vāsudeva jagatpate। dehi me tanayaṃ kṛṣṇaṃ tvāmahaṃ śaraṇaṃ gata: klīṃ ūṃ।।

Janmashtami Puja Rituals

• Wake up and take a bath early and wear clean clothes.
• Bathe the idol of Bal Gopal or Lord Krishna with a mixture of Ganga Jal, Milk, Curd, Ghee, Sugar or Mishri, Honey and Saffron or Kesar.
• Now, bathe him with clean water.
• Adorn him with beautiful clothes and jewellery.
• At midnight, offer the Bhoga to Lord Krishna and recite the aarti.
• Offer white sweets, and Kheer made of Rice or Sabudana with dried fruits and nuts. Use Mishri instead of Sugar and Tulsi water to prepare the Kheer. 
• Distribute the Prashad.
• In case you’re fasting, observe the Parna on the ninth day or Navami tithi the next day.
• Offer cow’s milk to Lord Krishna in case you wish to make you love life stronger. After this, do the Abhishek with Panchamrit. 
• Makhan-Mishri or Butter-Sugar can be offered to the Lord to attain happiness and worldly pleasures. After this, use raw Lassi to perform the Abhishek.
• Mix Tulsi with milk and offer it to the Lord Krishna to eliminate any physical disorders. Just like above, use raw Lassi to perform the Abhishek.
• Perform the Abhishek using Sugarcane juice and offer sweet ladoos to the Lord to get rid of work-related obstacles.

Do’s & Don’ts on Janmashtami

• Do not behave rudely with anyone on the auspicious day of Janmashtami. Help the needy and poor as much as you can.
• Avoid uprooting or cutting any plant or tree on this day. 
• Worship the old idol of Kanha so as to maintain the peace and serenity within the house. 
• Put Tulsi leaves in the Bhoga offered to the Lord. 
• Pour milk from the Conch shell on the idol of Bal Gopal and perform Abhishek. Along with it, worship Goddess Laxmi as well. This will strengthen your financial conditions.
• Put a Red Chunri on the Tulsi plant on this day, light a diya with Ghee and chant the mantra “ॐ वासुदेवाय नम: / oṃ vāsudevāya nama:”.
