Chhath Puja is celebrated for a period of four days. Every day has its own importance. Each day signifies the dedication and purity of the devotees towards this festival. So, let’s talk about the rituals of each day in detail:

Chhath Puja Day 1 - Nahay Khaye

‘Nahaye Khaye’ is considered as the starting of Chhath Puja. On the first day, the devotees take a dip in the holy river and also they use the water of that river for preparing Prasad. This ritual signifies the name of the this day as Nahay Khaye.

Muhurat: From 06:32 am to 05:35 pm

Chhath Puja Day 2 - Kharna

The second day of Chhath Puja is known as ‘Kharna’. On this day, the devotees observe fast for a period of about 36 hours. Drinking of water is also restricted in this fast. They make a special Prasad of Kheer Puri, which is used for breaking the fast after worshiping Sun, before sunset.

Chhath Puja Day 3 - Chhath

The third day of Chhath Puja is the most important day of all. The main Chhath Puja is organised on this day. An event named Kosi is also celebrated by devotees in which the earthen lamp is lighted and placed under the canopy of sugarcane sticks.

Chhath Puja Day 4 - Paarun

Puja of the last day of Chhath is performed during the Sunrise, which means the rising Sun is worshipped on this day. The devotees gather at the river bank before Sunrise, offer prayers and break their 36 hours long fast. In this way, the people perform the Chhath Puja and receive the blessings of Lord Sun.
