Every year, Ganesh Visarjan and Anant Chaturdashi occurs on the fourteenth day of the bright half of the Hindu month, Bhadrapada. Let’s now know in detail about the significance of this day.

Ganpati Visarjan 2016 Celebration

The day of Ganesh Visarjan is celebrated on a very large scale, especially by Maharashtrians. However, it has now become a worldwide festival. Its glory is so magnificent that everybody wants to be the part of this festival. In this globalized world, many mobile applications are also created to give a better reach to all the aspects of this fiesta. Those who can afford a chopper ride may get the view of Ganpati Visarjan in 2016 from the top. This ‘Bird’s Eye View’ is gaining a lot of popularity, as it is adding luxury to the festival.

On this energetic day, when everyone is in excitement of the preparations made for this grand festival, various unique events like musical events, dance shows, etc. are also organized to fill the zest into the deepest core of everyone. Even the showbiz stars drop down their sizzling veil in the honor of Vinayaka (another name for Ganesha) and join the masses with great enthusiasm. Everybody wants to be the best devotee of Ganesha. Why?

It is because Ganpati is the most merciful God, who is laden with all the powers of this world. He is the Lord of wealth, knowledge, and everything that we worldly creatures need to survive. Who would not want to be his favorite?

Among all these exciting things, there is something about this festival that is not very good for us. It is the environmental pollution. The main things that is to be concerned about is the idol of Lord Ganesha. In old days, idols were made up of clay, but now they are formed with plaster of paris. When the idol is immersed in a water body, it pollutes the water. Hence, it is always great to worship Ganesha in the form of clay idol.

Ganesh Visarjan is the last day of Ganeshotsav, which begins with Ganesh Chaturthi. Click here to know about the first day of Ganeshotsav: Ganesh Chaturthi

Significance Of Anant Chaturdashi

On this very day, certain communities celebrate Anant Chaturdashi. The day of Ananta Chaturdashi is of high significance for Jains and Hindus. When most of the country bids adieu to Ganesha, some of them also worship Vishnu, the preserver of this universe. Ananta and Ananta Padmanabha are other names for Vishnu. Hence, the day is popular as Ananta Chaturdashi.

On this day, devotees of Vishnu observe a fast with a vow to Vishnu that they will cherish wealth and prosperity for the next fourteen years. Sacred thread of Ananta is also tied on the same day. This thread should either consist of fourteen knots or it can be a bunch of fourteen threads. Usually, the thread is of yellow color. The 14 knots or 14 threads signify the vow of 14 years. It can be worn like a bracelet or armlet. Let’s now know the procedure of wearing this thread.

Procedure Of Wearing Sacred Thread

  1. Purify the thread by adorning it on the idol of Lord Vishnu.
  2. Certain Mantras are chanted after that.
  3. Further, Kumkum (vermilion) is applied to the thread and it is known as Ananta Dharam.
  4. After that, Ananta is worshipped and the males tie thread on their right arm, whereas females tie on their left arm.

Physiological Benefits Of Sacred Thread

Another belief associated with the number of knots or threads says that the number 14 signifies the fourteen knots of human body that are connected with each other by Chetna Sakti (power of consciousness). As per the belief, this thread triggers the Chetna Shakti, which increases the momentum of the body.

Procedure Of Yamuna & Sheshnag Worship

On this very day, Yamuna and Sheshnag are also worshiped. The procedure for worshiping Yamuna is given below:

  1. Bathe the idol of Goddess Yamuna with Panchamrit, which is the solution of 5 holy substances - curd, honey, milk, water, and Ghee (milk fat).
  2. After that, the idol is placed at its place.
  3. Further, turmeric and vermilion are applied to the forehead of the Goddess.
  4. Next, raw rice is poured in a Kalash (a traditional Indian metal pot) and Anga Puja of the Goddess is performed.
  5. At the end, Aarti of the Goddess is sung with the light of Diya and fragrance of incense sticks.

Let’s now know the process of worshiping Sheshnag:

  1. Bathe the idol and place it.
  2. Then, perform Ang Puja (worship of body parts) and Naam Puja (name worship).
  3. Seven hoods of Sheshnag are then worshiped.
  4. Finally, the worship process is completed with Aarti, Diya, and incense sticks.

Teachers’ Day: Who Is An Ideal Teacher?

Teachers’ Day is celebrated on September 5. Let’s commemorate great guides of India who held our hands to take us to an enlightened path. But what helped them to attain the stature of a ‘teacher’? Through predictions from Pt. Deepak Dubey, know how the stars can lead an individual be a role-model.

Significance Of A Teacher

Pt. Deepak Dubey belongs to the pious land of Varanasi. He is a Lord Shiva devotee, a renowned astrologer and master of Hindu religious rituals. Along with that, he is an expert of Vastu and knows Mantra-Tantra. He got the knowledge of astrology from his father who is also a well known astrologer and Maa Kali devotee. He is invited to various T.V channels and FM radio shows for interviews. He is graduate in psychology and has also written for several magazines.
A teacher is someone who takes you to an enlightened path, rescuing you from darkness. Here, by darkness, one means the dark aura of ignorance and enlightenment refers to knowledge. A teacher is that great being in our lives who guide us to the illuminated world of knowledge from the darkness of unconsciousness. This is a quality which is not found in any random person. The one who is deprived of malice and envy and who forgets his/her reminiscence while providing the elixir of knowledge to others, can become the perfect teacher. Even if the disciple attains much more knowledge and becomes more capable as compared to the teacher, it becomes the reason for the ultimate satisfaction for an ideal teacher. That means, the one who is able to show the correct path of life to others and the one who is away from the feelings of anger, greed, attraction and hatred can become a true teacher. Here, knowledge does not mean the one that is attained through books; a proper teacher guides us in every aspect of the journey of life. For any person, the first teacher is his/her mother.

What Is Teachers’ Day?

In India, Teachers’ Day is celebrated on September 5 on the birth date of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. Teachers’ day is generally celebrated to honor the individuals who achieved some significant landmarks in the field of academics. However, according to me, the day should also be dedicated to the persons who have contributed largely in motivating us to choose the right path in life. In this section, comes Savitribai Phule, the first female teacher of our country, Swami Vivekananda, Mother Teresa, Guru Rabindranath Tagore, A.P.J. Abdul Kalam with spiritual Gurus like Sant Gyaneshwar, Guru Nanak, Guru Gobind Singh and many others who come in the category of great guides of life.

Teacher & Astrology

According to astrology, attributes in an individual are decided by the impact of one or the other planet. As I have already discussed earlier, an ideal teacher should be deprived of anger, greed, fascination, selfishness and other similar negative characters. The feelings of forgiveness, inner knowledge, benevolence and the ability to express knowledge should dwell in an ideal Guru or teacher.

If we view this from astrological angle, Jupiter of benefic nature should reside in the birth-chart of a true or ideal teacher; Jupiter itself is considered to be the Guru or teacher of the planets. Mercury, the significator of intellect and Sun, the significator of broad mindedness, both should be in good planetary positions or a conjunction between Sun-Mercury should be there. It is essential for Jupiter to have a relation, either with the ascendant or the fifth house. The ascendant should not be affected by Rahu, Ketu, Mars or Saturn

Now, let’s take a look at Kundali (birth-charts) of some of the great guides; this will help in knowing the influence of planets in making them great teachers:

Birth-Charts Of Eminent Personalities

First of all let’s take a look on the birth chart of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan

Sagittarius ascendant, that means zodiac sign of planet Jupiter, Sun is posited in its own sign Leo, in the ninth house and exalted Mercury with Venus in the centre.

Swami Vivekananda

The ascendant of Sagittarius is present in birth-chart of Swami Vivekananda; Sagittarius is the sign of Jupiter. The lord of the ninth house, Sun is in his ascendant. Conjunction of Mercury-Venus in the second house which makes him an energetic orator. Mars of Aries is present in the fifth-house that is directly aspected by Jupiter.

Rabindranath Tagore

Rabindranath Tagore’s birth-chart is also of the ascendant Pisces, which is related to Jupiter and Moon is present in it. Exalted Sun is present in his second house; along with it, Mercury and Venus are also present. Exalted Jupiter is present in the fifth house.

Mother Teresa

The ascendant of Sagittarius is present in the birth-chart of Mother Teresa, which is the sign of Jupiter. Both, Jupiter and exalted Mercury are present in the tenth house.

Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar

Birth chart of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, the founder of Indian constitution, is also of ascendant Pisces that means related to Jupiter. Exalted Sun and Mercury are positioned in the second house.

Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam

In the birth chart of our ex-president Shri Abdul Kalam, the Jupiter is posited in ascendant and that too in exalted condition. Exalted Mercury is in conjunction with Sun. In tenth house, Mars’ own sign is aspected by Venus.

Summary

If we analyse each of these birth-charts, there is one thing common in them i.e. Jupiter has a direct relation with the ascendant. Either the ascendant of Jupiter is itself present in the birth-charts, or Jupiter itself is positioned in the ascendant. The conjunction of Mercury-Sun is present in almost each one of them. In some cases, Mercury is in its exalted position. Jupiter, Venus, and Mercury are considered to be the planets associated with intellect and knowledge; Jupiter is chosen to be the foremost out of all these.

To be a true and ideal teacher, one should firstly become a good disciple. Let’s pay reverence to our teachers on this Teacher’s Day and pledge to become good students.

Planet Mars comes under the category of malefic planets. Mars causes serious effects while aspecting any sign rather when it resides in that particular sign. Mars yield fruitful results only in its own sign and its exalted sign, as in other signs, it gives only troubles.

On September 5, 2014, after leaving its inimical sign Venus under Chitra constellation, Mars will transit into its own sign Scorpio. Though it can be said that transit of Mars in Scorpio may not be favorable for all the zodiac signs; however, this transit will be filled with passion, excitement, adventure, and courage. The reason behind this fact is that all these qualities are associated with Mars. During transit, Mars gives auspicious results in houses 3rd, 6th and 11th from Moon.
